Flight Attendant

United is currently seeking dedicated individuals to join our team of over 30,000 flight attendants. As the world’s largest airline, we are expanding our network and looking for professionals committed to safety, service, and excellence.

Position Overview

Successful candidates will complete 6.5 weeks of initial training in Houston, TX, covering safety and service standards. Upon graduation, flight attendants will be assigned to one of our seven hubs (Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, or Washington Dulles). This is a full-time, safety-sensitive position requiring 24/7 availability for global assignments, including weekends, nights, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prioritize the safety and security of all passengers and crew.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service with optimism, empathy, and professional judgment.
  • Adapt to diverse customer-facing scenarios and resolve issues with grace.
  • Maintain high levels of dependability, timeliness, and team collaboration.
  • Perform physical duties, including lifting luggage, reaching equipment, and maneuvering beverage carts weighing up to 250 lbs.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum age of 21 at time of application.
  • High school diploma or GED required (2+ years of college preferred).
  • Minimum one year of customer service experience in the service industry.
  • Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
  • Valid passport with at least 12 months of remaining validity and two consecutive blank pages.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States and eligibility to travel globally without restrictions.
  • Ability to pass a 10-year background check, pre-employment drug screen, and vision/hearing tests.
  • Professional appearance and adherence to uniform, grooming, and tattoo policies.
  • Ability to pass a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal).
  • Proficiency in the use of electronic devices such as tablets and smartphones.

Preferred Skills

Fluency in a second language—including Arabic, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, or Tagalog—is highly desirable.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Compensation: Starting hourly flight pay of $37.10/hour, with a scale reaching $100.13/hour by 2030. Additional pay provided for boarding, language skills, international trips, and lead positions.
  • Training Stipend: $140 per week during training, plus accommodations and meals. Graduates receive a $1,000 bonus.
