Position Overview: Flight Attendant

United Airlines is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team of over 30,000 flight attendants. As the world’s largest airline with an expansive global network, United offers a unique opportunity to travel, build a professional career, and provide exceptional service to our customers. We provide comprehensive, industry-leading training; no prior aviation schooling or college degree is required.

Training and Onboarding

The journey begins with 6.5 weeks of Initial Training in Houston, TX. During this period, candidates receive a $140 weekly stipend, dual-occupancy hotel accommodations, and two meals per day. Upon successful completion of training and base orientation, graduates are welcomed as full-time employees and receive a $1,000 graduation bonus. Base assignments are determined during training across our seven hubs (Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Newark, San Francisco, Washington Dulles) or other designated locations; relocation funds are not provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety First: Prioritize the safety and well-being of all passengers and crew members at all times.
  • Customer Service: Exhibit a "people-first" demeanor, utilizing excellent interpersonal skills to resolve scenarios with compassion, optimism, and grace.
  • Operational Flexibility: Availability to work 24/7, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours. Candidates must be prepared for reserve assignments on short notice and extended periods away from base.
  • Team Collaboration: Demonstrate the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a diverse crew.
  • Compliance: Proficiently operate electronic devices and perform physical duties, including lifting luggage, pushing/pulling heavy carts, and utilizing emergency equipment.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum age of 21 at the time of application.
  • High school diploma or GED (2 or more years of college preferred).
  • Minimum of one year of customer service experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, education, or aviation).
  • Must be fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding). Proficiency in a second language (such as Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, or Tagalog) is highly desirable.
  • Must possess a valid passport with at least 12 months of remaining validity and two consecutive blank pages.
  • Ability to travel to and from all countries served by United without restriction.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Meet specific physical requirements, including a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal).
  • Must pass all pre-employment screenings, including a 10-year criminal background check, DOT/FAA drug screens, and vision/hearing exams.
  • Professional appearance and adherence to grooming, uniform, and tattoo standards.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive Pay: Starting hourly flight pay of $37.10/hour, scaling to $100.13/hour by 2030, plus boarding pay. Additional compensation for language skills, lead roles, and international trips.
