Position Overview: Flight Attendant

United is the world's largest airline with an expansive global network. We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our team of over 30,000 flight attendants. This role offers the unique opportunity to travel the world while maintaining the highest standards of safety and service. Successful candidates will undergo 6.5 weeks of initial training in Houston, TX, before being assigned to one of our seven hubs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prioritize safety as the primary operational objective.
  • Provide exceptional customer service with optimism, compassion, and professionalism.
  • Resolve customer inquiries and issues with grace and good judgment.
  • Operate effectively as part of a team or independently.
  • Maintain flexibility for 24/7 global assignments, including holidays, weekends, and short-notice reserve duty.
  • Serve and sell food and beverages, including alcohol.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application.
  • High school graduate or GED required; 2 or more years of college preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in the service industry (e.g., retail, hospitality, education, or aviation).
  • Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
  • Fluency in Italian (speaking and reading).
  • Must possess a valid passport book with at least 12 months of remaining validity and two consecutive blank pages at the time of application.
  • Ability to travel globally to all countries United serves without restriction.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, push beverage carts up to 250 lbs, and perform all safety-related movements including reaching, kneeling, and bending.
  • Must pass a functional reach assessment (76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal).
  • Professional appearance, adherence to grooming standards, and compliance with tattoo, piercing, and jewelry policies.
  • Proficiency with electronic devices such as tablets and smartphones.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Candidates must successfully pass a comprehensive 10-year background check, fingerprinting, and DOT/FAA-regulated drug screenings (including for marijuana). Additionally, candidates must meet FAA hearing and vision requirements and successfully complete a water-based evacuation drill during training.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting hourly pay of $28.88; top of scale at $67.11/hour.
  • Additional compensation available for language skills, lead positions, and international trips.
  • Bonus eligibility, including profit sharing and a $1,000 completion bonus upon successful training graduation.
