Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 21 years at the time of application.
- High school diploma or GED; two or more years of college preferred.
- At least one year of customer service experience in the service industry.
- Clear, concise, and organized communication skills, capable of being heard in emergency situations.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Proficiency in a second language is highly desirable.
- Ability to hear all types and ranges of sound.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate in high-stress situations.
- Professional appearance and adherence to United's uniform, hair, tattoo, and piercing guidelines.
- Ability to proficiently operate electronic devices.
- Valid passport with 18 months of remaining validity at the time of application, allowing for global travel without restrictions.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, stretch, reach, lift heavy objects, and push/pull beverage carts.
- Ability to pass a functional reach assessment with a combined 76-inch vertical and 43.5-inch horizontal reach.
- Ability to sit in an assigned jump seat with a seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened.
- Willingness to serve and/or sell food and beverages, including alcohol, in a professional manner.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Flexibility to work a varying schedule in support of United's 24/7 operation.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of pre-employment DOT drug screen, comprehensive background checks, fingerprinting, and vision/hearing tests.
- Ability to pass DOT/FAA pre-employment and randomized drug screens.
- Ability to pass a 10-year background check.
Onboarding and Training:
- Flight attendant trainees will participate in a water evacuation drill during training.
- United provides a $140/week per diem during training, along with accommodations, breakfast, and lunch. Successful graduates receive a $1,000 bonus.
