About the Role
The National Research Council (NRC) is seeking a qualified Research Engineer Test Pilot (Fixed Wing) to join the Aerospace Research Centre's Flight Research Laboratory in Ottawa. This role involves operating specialized research aircraft, managing flight test projects, and contributing to aerospace research and development initiatives.
Responsibilities

Serve as Pilot-in-Command for research flight activities, including airborne research, sensing, and flight mechanics projects.

Conduct test and evaluation flying for research projects across multiple aircraft platforms.

Act as Pilot Project Lead, providing expertise in piloting and flight testing for research and development projects.

Manage and engineer collaborative flight research projects, including research experiment design, analysis, and reporting.

Manage the technical development and project application of research aircraft.
Requirements
Education
-
Canadian Forces fixed-wing pilot flight training or equivalent.

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering, science, or math program; a Master's degree is preferred.

Completion of a formal fixed-wing test pilot school training course (minimum 10 months) from a SETP-recognized school or equivalent.
Experience
-
Minimum of 2,500 hours of fixed-wing pilot experience.

Significant experience as a test pilot in an aircraft test or development environment.

Hold a valid Airline Transport Pilot License – Aeroplane.
Conditions of Employment

Must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Must obtain and maintain a Transport Canada Category 1 aviation medical certificate.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC).

Ability to occasionally work in demanding environments, such as the Arctic or hot/dry locations.
