NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, Virginia is pleased to announce an opening for a talented, motivated fixed wing GS-14 (target 15) research/test pilot using OPM’s direct hire authority under a term, civil service appointment. Term appointments are extendable beyond the term when project requirements remain and performance meets expectations.

Duties will include testing modifications to aircraft in our fleet (currently sUAS, SR-22, Lancair, King Air, Gulfstream III & IV) and employing them for NASA’s aeronautics and airborne science research worldwide under NASA’s public use certification and operations.

Summary of minimum pilot qualifications include FAA or military ratings in commercial/multi-engine/instrument ratings. Flight hour requirements of 1500 hrs PIC with 500 hrs of jet (over 3000 lbs thrust), an FAA or military Class 1 medical, and an education in an engineering or technical degree. Prior research or test pilot experience at the GS-13 level required.

Desired experience includes qualifications in multiple aircraft as an accredited long course TPS graduate. International operations, FAA ATP certificate and Aviation Safety Officer prior experience will be highly competitive. Type rating in Gulfstream III or IV a plus.
