Essential Responsibilities

The Avro RJ Captain serves as Pilot-in-Command (PIC), ensuring the safe, efficient, and regulatory-compliant operation of the aircraft throughout Summit Air's extensive route network. The Captain must uphold the company's strong commitment to safety culture at all times. Core responsibilities include:

  • Operating Avro RJ aircraft safely and efficiently throughout Northern Canada while serving as Pilot-in-Command (PIC).
  • Maintaining absolute currency with all available flight information, including meteorological data and applicable NOTAMs, and meticulously verifying Type A flight plans for accuracy and compliance.
  • Diligently participating in the comprehensive aircraft pre-flight inspection, as well as executing all required post-flight duties.

Candidate Qualifications and Requirements

Summit Air requires Captains who demonstrate an unwavering commitment to operational discipline and command presence. Essential requirements for consideration include:

  • Possession of a current Canadian Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL).
  • A minimum of 4000 hours Total Time.
  • A minimum of 2500 hours Multi-Engine Pilot-in-Command (MPIC) time on aircraft greater than 5700 kg.
  • Possession of a current Passport with the unrestricted ability to travel to the United States and Europe.
  • The ability to successfully obtain a Canadian Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC).
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a command position.
  • Successful completion of mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol testing protocols.

Highly Desirable Assets

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following specialized experience:

  • A minimum of 500 hours on Jet aircraft.
  • Extensive operational experience within High Arctic environments.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with modern Glass Cockpit systems.
