Spirit Airlines Pilot Pathway Program

Job Description

The Spirit Wings & Spirit Direct Pilot Pathway programs offer aspiring pilots a direct route to becoming a First Officer with Spirit Airlines. This program is designed for pilots enrolled at select flight school or university program partners.

Program Benefits:

Throughout the program, cadets will benefit from:

  • Mentorship, guidance, and training opportunities provided by members of the Flight Operations team.
  • A full Spirit Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) with early access to training materials in preparation for Airbus A320 series aircraft training.
  • Subscriptions to Foreflight and Jeppesen Pro.
  • Invitations to at least one annual "Spirit Day" event, including presentations, training opportunities, and meetings with Flight Operations leadership.

Qualifications

Part 61 & 141 Flight School Requirements:

  • A minimum of 500 hours of total flight time.
  • A Commercial Pilot Certificate.
  • A recommendation from a partner school faculty member or chief instructor.
  • A current FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • An FCC Radio Telephone Operator Permit.
  • A valid passport with at least nine (9) months of validity, enabling travel to and from the USA and all Spirit Airlines destinations.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

University Requirements:

  • Completion of the sophomore year in an accredited aviation degree program.
  • A recommendation from a partner school faculty member or chief instructor.
  • A current FAA First Class Medical Certificate, or the ability to obtain it prior to ATP/CTP and Jet Transition courses.
  • An FCC Radio Telephone Operator Permit.
  • A valid passport with at least nine (9) months of validity, enabling travel to and from the USA and all Spirit Airlines destinations.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Selected candidates will complete all program requirements and meet FAA standards for an Unrestricted ATP or Restricted ATP (if applicable for university program participants). A final program review is also required. All cadets must attend ATP/CTP and a Spirit-specific A320 Jet Transition course before receiving a new hire class date. New hire class dates are contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment testing and background checks.

First Officer Responsibilities

Upon becoming a First Officer, the individual will:

  • Ensure a safe and pleasant experience for all Spirit passengers.
  • Assist the Captain in the safe operation of the aircraft, adhering to all Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and company policies.
  • Demonstrate a passion for customer service and contribute a fresh perspective to the airline industry.
  • Fulfill other assigned responsibilities, which may change in response to operational needs.
