Flight Operations Flight Instructor
Southwest Airlines is seeking a dedicated and skilled Flight Operations Flight Instructor to join its Flight Operations Department. Job Description:
The Flight Operations Flight Instructor will deliver training in both classroom and simulator settings, ensuring Pilots possess the necessary knowledge and practical skills. This individual will adhere to Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), the Advanced Qualification Program Manual (AQPM), the Flight Operations Training Manual (FOTM), and all company requirements. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential to facilitate successful flight instruction.
Compensation and Benefits:
This position offers a competitive hourly rate of $76.64, with potential for future increases based on the applicable collective bargaining agreement and time in position. Additional opportunities for overtime and shift premiums may be available.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver classroom and simulator training that meets FARs, training policies, and company standards.
- Facilitate pilot learning through effective instruction.
- Create instructional and evaluation materials to support training programs.
- Maintain course integrity through continuous study, practice, review, and instructor meetings.
- Perform other job duties as assigned by leadership.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience with training equipment including computer-based training workstations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- In-depth knowledge of flight training principles and FAR training requirements.
- Excellent English verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read technical aircraft documents, follow technical instructions, grasp new concepts, and create written technical documents.
- Ability to complete accurate work under pressure while maintaining flexibility.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to support 24/7 operational requirements.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
Experience:
- Demonstrated experience operating an aircraft is required.
Licensing/Certification:
- USA DOT/FAA Unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot Certificate, including "Airplane Multiengine Land" Category and Class Ratings, and "English Proficient" limitation.
- Valid United States Driver's License.
- Must meet all regulatory criteria to obtain and maintain Flight Deck Jumpseat Access and participate in the Rap Back program.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to view and read computer/video/flight deck displays frequently.
- Ability to participate in the FAR-directed Line Observation Program, and enter/exit aircraft safely in normal/emergency conditions.
- Ability to enter/exit flight simulator, cabin simulator, briefing rooms safely in normal/emergency conditions.
- Ability to sit in the simulator for up to 4 hours uninterrupted.
- Ability to perform duties from a limited workspace for extended periods.
- Ability to communicate with others in English.
- Ability to use computer and office tools with sufficient speed and accuracy.
- Ability to move/transport 25 lbs on occasion.
- Ability to work at elevated heights and operate a Flight Simulator.
- Ability to manipulate applicable flight controls at full deflection.
- Ability to pass annual flight evaluations.
- Ability to facilitate/present for up to 8 hours.
- Ability to make/receive audible callouts in classroom and/or simulator settings.
Other Qualifications:
- Maintain a well-groomed appearance as per company guidelines.
- U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the United States, without requiring sponsorship now or in the future.
- Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards.
- Must be at least 23 years of age.
- Professional behavior required on and after Company hours and at Company events.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, holidays, and overtime.
- Must maintain confidentiality regarding Company information.
- Air travel with overnight stays is required.
- Ability to work extended hours as needed.
This position is based at Southwest Airlines' Dallas, TX headquarters and requires on-site work during business hours.
