Smithfield Foods, a leading American food company, is seeking an experienced and highly qualified FAA certified Corporate Pilot to join our flight operations team in Newport News, Virginia. About the Role:
The Captain II will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and legal operation of company aircraft, transporting employees, customers, and guests. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to flight safety and possess a deep understanding of all applicable federal regulations, company policies, and procedures. Pilots in command of the aircraft are responsible for and have the final authority on the safe and legal operation of the aircraft.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as Pilot in Command (PIC) or Second in Command (SIC) for assigned flights, prioritizing the safe transportation of passengers.
- Implement thorough flight planning, including weather monitoring, routing, fuel requirements, airport requirements, air traffic control considerations, and adherence to FAA regulations.
- Adhere to schedules and directives related to aircraft operations.
- Conduct comprehensive pre-flight inspections.
- Analyze weather conditions at destinations, en route, at alternate airports, and departure points.
- Prepare meticulous flight plans.
- Ensure all flight and ground operations comply with federal aviation regulations.
- Review and calculate aircraft weight and balance, fuel on board, and performance charts.
- Coordinate and oversee the functions of all assigned crewmembers.
- Make informed decisions to start, delay, or cancel flights, or deviate from the planned route or destination when necessary.
- Represent Smithfield Foods at the executive level when engaging with business associates, officials, and customers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 8+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 3,500 hours of total flight time.
- Minimum 1,000 hours of turbine pilot in command experience (preferred).
- Experience with DA-2EASY or EMB-550 aircraft (a plus).
- Experience in Part 121 or Part 135/91 turbine/jet flight operations.
- Ability to travel overnight, to domestic and international destinations, sometimes on short notice.
- International experience (a plus).
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and attention to detail, with the ability to multitask effectively.
- Excellent time management and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Respectful, approachable, and team-oriented demeanor, with the ability to build strong working relationships and foster a positive work environment.
