Pilot Recruitment Minimum Requirements

Prospective candidates must meet strict licensing, medical, and experience criteria to be considered for this professional pilot role. SAS is seeking dedicated individuals who possess the requisite flight hours and operational acumen.

Essential Professional Qualifications

  • License Requirement: A valid EASA Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) is mandatory.
  • Medical Certification: The applicant must hold a current EASA Class 1 Medical Certificate.
  • English Proficiency: Minimum required standard is ICAO English Language Proficiency (ELP) Level 5.
  • Type Rating: A specific type rating is not required; successful candidates will receive comprehensive, provided training.

Mandatory Flight Hour Experience

Candidates must demonstrate extensive flight experience, meeting one of the following minimum threshold criteria:

  • Option A: A total of 4,000 flight hours, which must include a minimum of 250 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) or Pilot-in-Command Under Supervision (PICUS).
  • Option B: A total of 3,500 flight hours, including 500 hours as PIC on aircraft with a Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW) exceeding 16 tonnes.
  • Option C: A total of 3,000 flight hours, including 1,000 hours as PIC on aircraft with an MTOW exceeding 16 tonnes.

  • The applicant must possess an unrestricted right to live and work in the European Union (EU).
  • Visa Sponsorship: SAS Scandinavian Airlines does not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
  • A clean criminal record is essential.
  • As a mandatory condition of employment, all selected candidates will be required to undergo a comprehensive background check and a personal security interview.
  • Furthermore, candidates must successfully complete a mandatory drug and alcohol test. Both the personal security interview and the drug and alcohol test must be conducted in the designated base city.
