Job Overview: Remote Pilot Operator (RPO)

SAIC is seeking a full-time Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) to join the Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team at the Memphis ARTCC (ZME) in Memphis, TN. This role supports Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic controller training services. Please note: This position is not related to UAS, UAV, RPV, or drone operations.

Role and Responsibilities

The RPO facilitates medium and high-fidelity training exercises within the Air Traffic Controller training simulator. Responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the pilot and supplementary controller to simulate real-world operations.
  • Operating simulated radar displays and voice communication systems (VCS).
  • Translating displayed information into accurate ATC terminology.
  • Executing proper entries into automated systems to reflect pilot actions.
  • Responding to student ATC specialists using professional phraseology.

The successful candidate will be required to attain formal certifications in both classroom settings (covering airspace and procedures) and laboratory environments (covering all RPO positions).

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and manuals.
  • Clear verbal communication skills with the ability to be easily understood.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams (e.g., Multimedia Developers, Instructional System Designers, and Subject Matter Experts).
  • Prior certification or experience in ATC Tower, TRACON, or En Route simulation labs.
  • Working knowledge of FAAO JO 7110.65.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and team-building capabilities.
  • Proficiency in the MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Familiarity with current technological tools, including tablets and mobile applications.
  • Background or experience with pilot/controller communications and phraseology.
