Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) - Air Traffic Control Training

Fairbanks ATCT / TRACON (FAI), Fairbanks, AK

Full-time

Overview

SAIC is seeking a dedicated Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) to join the Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team at the Fairbanks ATCT / TRACON (FAI). This role supports air traffic controller training services for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and focuses on simulating the actions of pilots and remote air traffic control facilities within high-fidelity training exercises. This position is specifically for RPO duties and does not involve UAS, UAV, RPV, or drone piloting.

Job Description

The Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) is responsible for simulating pilot and other controller actions within the Air Traffic Control training simulator. Utilizing a simulated radar display and voice communication system, the RPO will replicate pilot actions and communications from remote ATC facilities during training scenarios. Key responsibilities include receiving voice commands from students, accurately inputting simulated pilot actions into the automated system, translating displayed information into appropriate Air Traffic Control (ATC) terminology, and responding to students via the voice communication system using proper phraseology.

Successful candidates will be required to complete the following certifications: Classroom (achieving a passing score on airspace and procedures tests) and Lab (demonstrating proficiency as a Remote Pilot Operator on all simulation positions).

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is committed to ensuring a high level of safety and professionalism in air traffic services, for which a well-trained ATC workforce is essential. The FAA employs over 14,000 air traffic controllers who manage the safe separation of more than 50,000 aircraft daily within the National Airspace System (NAS). To meet training needs, the FAA utilizes contractor-provided instructional services across its facilities nationwide. SAIC provides comprehensive training and support services to prepare students for full certification as air traffic controllers across all types and levels of ATC facilities.
