Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) - Air Traffic Control Training
SAIC is seeking a Full-Time Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) to join the Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team. This position supports air traffic controller training services for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at the Anchorage Approach Control (A11) facility in Anchorage, Alaska. Please note: This is not a UAS, UAV, RPV, or Drone pilot position.
Job Responsibilities
The RPO simulates pilot actions and other controllers within the Air Traffic Controller training simulator environment. Responsibilities include operating a simulated radar display and voice communication system to replicate the actions of pilots and remote Air Traffic Control (ATC) facilities during medium and high-fidelity training exercises. The RPO will receive voice commands from students, input appropriate entries into the automated system to simulate pilot actions, translate displayed information into correct ATC terminology, and respond to students via the voice communication system using proper phraseology.
Successful candidates will be required to complete the following certifications: Classroom (passing a test on airspace and procedures) and Lab (performing as a Remote Pilot Operator on all designated positions).

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is dedicated to ensuring a high level of safety and professionalism for the flying public through its air traffic control specialists. A well-trained ATC workforce is integral to this mission, with the FAA employing over 14,000 air traffic controllers who manage over 50,000 aircraft movements daily within the National Airspace System (NAS). The FAA provides comprehensive training for new and current air traffic control specialists through contractor-provided instructional services across various FAA ATC facilities in the U.S. and its Territories. SAIC's role is to deliver training and support services essential for preparing students to become fully certified air traffic controllers.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to read and interpret technical materials, such as diagrams and manuals.
- Ability to speak clearly and be understood.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary team environment, including Multimedia Developers, Quality Assurance, Instructional System Designers, Subject Matter Experts, and Instructors.
- Experience and certification in ATC Tower, TRACON, or En Route simulation labs is strongly desired, but not required.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of FAAO JO 7110.65 is strongly desired, but not required.
- Effective team-building skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
- Basic familiarization with current technological tools such as tablets, notebooks, and applications.
- Basic familiarization or experience with pilot/controller communications or phraseology.
