Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) - Traveling Datacom Team
Position Overview:
SAIC seeks dedicated and professional Full-time Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) candidates to join the SAIC Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team. This role is part of the traveling Datacom Team, providing essential air traffic controller training services for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Remote Pilot Operator plays a crucial role in simulating the actions and communications of pilots and other remote ATC facilities within medium and high-fidelity air traffic control training simulator exercises.
Please Note: This position is distinctly **NOT** a UAS, UAV, RPV, or DRONE pilot role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operates a combination of simulated radar displays and voice communication systems to emulate pilot and remote ATC facility behavior.
- Receives and interprets voice commands from student air traffic controllers.
- Inputs appropriate entries into the automated simulation system to reflect simulated pilot actions accurately.
- Translates displayed simulation information into correct air traffic control terminology.
- Responds to student controllers via the voice communication system using proper aviation phraseology.
- Completes required certifications, including passing classroom tests on airspace and procedures and demonstrating proficiency as a Remote Pilot Operator on all relevant simulation positions in a lab environment.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated basic computer proficiency.
- Ability to read and interpret technical materials such as diagrams and manuals.
- Ability to speak clearly and be easily understood.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Experience collaborating within a multidisciplinary team (e.g., Multimedia Developers, Quality Assurance, Instructional System Designers, Subject Matter Experts, Instructors).
- Experience and certification in an ATC Tower, TRACON, or En Route simulation laboratory.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of FAA Order JO 7110.65.
- Effective team-building skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Basic familiarity with current technological tools (tablets, notebooks, applications).
- Basic familiarity or experience with pilot/controller communications or phraseology.
This position is for the traveling Datacom Team, supporting FAA facilities across the U.S. and its Territories.
The target salary range for this position is $40,001 – $80,000, reflecting the typical range based on experience and other relevant factors.
