Air Traffic Control Instructor-II

SAIC is seeking an experienced Air Traffic Control Instructor-II to join its Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team. This full-time role supports critical air traffic controller training services for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at the Austin-Bergstrom International ATCT / TRACON (AUS) in Austin, TX. The successful candidate will provide essential instruction for aspiring and current Certified Professional Controllers (CPCs) within the National Airspace System (NAS).

About the Role

This hands-on Air Traffic Control Instructor position involves delivering high-quality classroom and simulation laboratory training to a diverse student body, including developmental air traffic controllers and Certified Professional Controllers (CPCs). As an ATC Instructor, you will demonstrate strong technical skills in current ATC automation, simulation systems, and procedures. Responsibilities include mentoring students and Remote Pilot Operators (RPOs), with opportunities to participate in curriculum design and development. The role requires demonstrating the knowledge and skills applicable for obtaining radar and/or non-radar simulation laboratory certifications at FAA air traffic control facilities. This critical function contributes to ensuring a well-trained Air Traffic Control workforce for the FAA.

Requirements

Candidates for this Air Traffic Control Instructor-II role must meet the following mandatory criteria:

• US Citizenship is required, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
• A minimum of five (5) years of FAA Certified Professional Controller (CPC) experience controlling live traffic, OR recent experience as a contract Instructor at an FAA facility. This experience must have been acquired at an ATC facility of the same type and level as the Austin-Bergstrom International ATCT / TRACON (AUS).
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Possession of an FAA Certified Professional Controller (CPC) certification, along with the ability to obtain and maintain Instructor-II Simulation Laboratory and Classroom Certification.

Qualifications

The ideal Air Traffic Control Instructor candidate will also possess the following desired skills and experience:

• Direct experience as a Certified Professional Controller (CPC) specifically at the Austin-Bergstrom International ATCT / TRACON (AUS) is preferred.
• Operational experience with Air Traffic Control (ATC) simulators, including proficiency in scenario design for various simulation platforms (e.g., TSS, AT Coach, SGET).
• Demonstrated ability to effectively interface with FAA personnel at all levels, ensuring training services align with local facility needs and the FAA's overarching Air Traffic Control mission.
• Proven excellent teaching and/or platform skills, effective classroom management techniques, and a student-focused commitment to continuous improvement in training delivery.
