Job Overview: Casual TRACON Air Traffic Control Instructor (II)

SAIC is seeking an experienced Casual Terminal Radar (TRACON) Air Traffic Control Instructor-II to join our Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team. Based at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City, OK, the selected candidate will provide high-quality training to developmental air traffic control students within the Terminal Radar Domain (RTF).

Note: Earnings received as an ATC Instructor, ATC Training Instructional Supervisor, or Contractor Site Supervisor on this program are exempt from supplemental annuity earnings limits for FERS retirees between the ages of 56 and 62.

Key Responsibilities

The Instructor-II is a hands-on role responsible for the consistent delivery of training services. Candidates must demonstrate technical proficiency with current ATC automation, simulation systems, and procedures. Success in this role requires obtaining and maintaining TRACON simulation laboratory certification at the FAA Academy to ensure the FAA’s mission of safety and professionalism is upheld.

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizenship is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Minimum of 3 years of FAA Certified Professional Controller (CPC) ATCS experience in a civilian TRACON or equivalent facility.
  • Experience must be from a facility equal to or exceeding an FAA ATC Level-7, up to and including Level-9.
  • Possession of a High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must possess FAA CPC certification and have the ability to obtain and maintain Instructor-II Simulation Laboratory Certification.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in a civilian TRACON environment is mandatory for consideration.
  • Prior experience as a certified ATC Instructor at the FAA Academy is preferred.
  • Operational proficiency with ATC simulators, including scenario design for platforms such as TSS, AT Coach, and SGET.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with FAA personnel at all levels.
  • Strong classroom management techniques, platform skills, and a commitment to student-focused continuous improvement.
