Job Overview: Casual Terminal Radar (TRACON) Air Traffic Control Instructor

SAIC is seeking an experienced Casual Terminal Radar (TRACON) Air Traffic Control Instructor to join the Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team. This role supports air traffic controller training services for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City, OK. The selected candidate will serve as a TRACON Instructor-II within the Terminal Radar Domain (RTF), responsible for delivering high-quality training to developmental air traffic control students.

Note for FERS Retirees: Earnings received as an ATC Instructor, ATC Training Instructional Supervisor, or Contractor Site Supervisor under this program are exempt from supplemental annuity earnings limits for FERS retirees between the ages of 56 and 62.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver consistent, high-quality instruction to a diverse group of developmental air traffic control students.
  • Demonstrate technical proficiency with current ATC automation, simulation systems, and operational procedures.
  • Obtain and maintain TRACON simulation laboratory certification at the FAA Academy.
  • Support the FAA’s mission to provide safe, professional air traffic control services by preparing students for full certification.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Minimum of 3 years of FAA Certified Professional Controller (CPC) ATCS experience in a civilian TRACON or equivalent civilian facility (Level-7 through Level-9).
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Current FAA CPC certification.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Operational experience with ATC simulators, including scenario design for platforms such as TSS, AT Coach, or SGET.
  • Demonstrated experience in classroom management, teaching, and platform instruction.
  • Prior experience as a certified ATC Instructor at the FAA Academy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interface effectively with FAA personnel at all levels.
  • A student-focused drive for continuous improvement.
