Position Overview: Terminal Radar (TRACON) Air Traffic Control Instructor

SAIC is seeking an experienced, full-time Terminal Radar (TRACON) Air Traffic Control (ATC) Instructor to join the Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team. This role supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in delivering high-quality training services at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City, OK.

The selected candidate will function as a TRACON Instructor-II within the Terminal Radar Domain (RTF). This hands-on position requires the consistent delivery of training to developmental air traffic control students. Successful candidates must possess strong technical skills regarding current ATC automation, simulation systems, and procedures, and must demonstrate the competency required to obtain TRACON simulation laboratory certification at the FAA Academy.

Note: For FERS retirees, earnings as an ATC Instructor, ATC Training Instructional Supervisor, or Contractor Site Supervisor on this program are exempt from supplemental annuity earnings limits for individuals between the ages of 56 and 62.

Key Qualifications

  • US Citizenship is required, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Minimum of 3 years of FAA Certified Professional Controller (CPC) ATCS experience in a civilian TRACON or equivalent civilian facility (at an FAA ATC facility Level-7 through Level-9).
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Possession of FAA CPC certification with the ability to obtain and maintain Instructor-II Simulation Laboratory Certification.
  • Candidates must possess FAA civilian TRACON experience.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Direct experience as a certified ATC Instructor at the FAA Academy is preferred.
  • Operational experience with ATC simulators, including scenario design for platforms such as TSS, AT Coach, or SGET.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with FAA personnel at all levels to support the FAA’s Air Traffic Control mission.
  • Proven teaching or platform skills, proficiency in classroom management techniques, and a commitment to student-focused continuous improvement.
