Air Traffic Control Instructor - Philadelphia ATCT / TRACON (PHL)
SAIC is actively seeking a highly qualified and experienced Full-Time Air Traffic Control Instructor to join its dedicated Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team. This pivotal position is located at the Philadelphia ATCT / TRACON (PHL) in Philadelphia, PA, and is crucial for delivering essential air traffic controller training services to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The FAA maintains an unwavering commitment to safety and professionalism, achieved through a meticulously trained Air Traffic Control (ATC) workforce. This role directly supports the FAA's mission by preparing both developmental and Certified Professional Controllers (CPC) to expertly manage over 50,000 aircraft daily within the demanding U.S. National Airspace System (NAS).
Responsibilities
- Consistently deliver the highest quality classroom and/or simulation laboratory training to a diverse range of students, including developmental air traffic controllers and Certified Professional Controllers (CPC).
- Provide effective mentoring and guidance to students and Remote Pilot Operators (RPO).
- Actively contribute to the design, development, and enhancement of training curricula.
- Apply strong technical proficiency in current ATC automation, simulation systems, and established procedures to facilitate comprehensive instruction.
- Demonstrate the requisite knowledge and skills to successfully obtain and maintain radar and/or non-radar simulation laboratory certifications at FAA air traffic control facilities throughout the U.S. NAS.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship is mandatory, with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- A minimum of five (5) years of FAA Certified Professional Controller (CPC) experience controlling live traffic, OR recent experience as a contract instructor at an FAA facility.
- Demonstrated experience must be at the same type and same or greater level of ATC facility as the Philadelphia ATCT / TRACON (PHL).
- Strong technical skills and a comprehensive understanding of current ATC automation, simulation systems, and operational procedures.
- Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Current FAA Certified Professional Controller (CPC) certification is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Instructor-II Simulation Laboratory Certification.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Direct experience as a Certified Professional Controller (CPC) at the Philadelphia ATCT / TRACON (PHL) is highly preferred.
- Operational experience with various ATC simulators, including expertise in scenario design for platforms such as TSS, AT Coach, or SGET.
- Proven ability to effectively interface with FAA personnel at all organizational levels, ensuring that training services consistently meet local facility requirements and align with the FAA’s broader Air Traffic Control mission.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and platform presentation skills, effective classroom management techniques, and a student-centric drive for continuous improvement.
Special Note for FERS Retirees: Earnings received as an ATC Instructor, ATC Training Instructional Supervisor, or Contractor Site Supervisor under this program are EXEMPT from the Supplemental Annuity earnings limits for FERS retirees between the ages of 56 and 62.
