First Officer Position at Republic Airways
Republic Airways, a leading North American regional airline, seeks a highly skilled and dedicated First Officer to join our team. This pivotal role directly supports the aircraft Captain, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our fleet of Embraer 170/175 aircraft. Responsibilities:
- Contribute to comprehensive flight planning, utilizing current weather information and adhering strictly to Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and company procedures.
- Conduct thorough pre-flight inspections to confirm aircraft airworthiness in accordance with FARs and company standards.
- Collaborate with the Captain to ensure accurate flight planning, including fuel calculations, for safe and compliant operations.
- Execute precise and safe aircraft operation throughout the assigned flight duty, following the Captain's instructions and complying with all relevant regulations and procedures.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of aircraft systems, FARs, and all operational manuals, policies, and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with crew and passengers regarding weather conditions and other operational factors impacting the flight.
- Complete accurate load manifests for all flights.
- Contribute to on-time performance by assisting the Captain in meeting all reporting, departure, and turnaround times.
- Provide assistance with ground operations, ensuring the efficient handling of aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo.
- Maintain consistent and reliable attendance in accordance with company policy.
- Present a professional demeanor at all times, adhering to the company's dress code and code of conduct.
- Actively participate in ongoing professional development to enhance skills and performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Captain and company management.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must meet minimum requirements for an ATP or RATP certificate; ATP written exam preferred.
- Fulfillment of current FAA and company minimum age and flight hour requirements for both interview and hiring stages. Candidates meeting interview minimums but not hiring minimums will be considered for employment upon successful interview, conditional on meeting hiring minimums within six months, maintaining a clean certificate record, no criminal record since the interview date, and acceptance of a class date within six months of the interview date.
- Prior customer service experience in an aviation environment is highly desirable.
Skills and Abilities:
- Exceptional ability to read, analyze, interpret, and understand technical procedures and governmental regulations, particularly under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the general public, including clear verbal communication in emergency situations.
- Strong problem-solving skills, the capacity to remain calm under pressure, and quick, decisive action in various emergency scenarios (medical emergencies, decompression, evacuations, fires, security threats, etc.).
- Proven ability to make sound, timely decisions with potential safety-of-flight implications, exhibiting composure under stress.
Physical Requirements:
The position demands physical capabilities including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting up to 75 pounds. Maintaining visual acuity to FAA standards, clear hearing, and stamina for extended work hours are essential. The ability to comfortably sit in the pilot's seat or jump seat with restraints is required. The role involves working in diverse environments, including open-air hangars, and exposure to varying weather conditions and high noise levels.
Work Environment & Travel:
This position requires the ability to work near moving mechanical parts, in various weather conditions, and in loud environments. The successful candidate must be willing to work extended hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays, and to travel up to 100%, including overnight stays, with potential for relocation based on operational needs.
