First Officer Position at Republic Airways
Overview
Republic Airways, a leading regional airline in North America, seeks a highly skilled and motivated First Officer to join its flight operations team. As a First Officer, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and timely operation of aircraft, working in close collaboration with the Captain.
Essential Duties
- Flight Planning and Preparation: Collaborate with the Captain in meticulously planning each flight, utilizing all relevant weather data and reports in accordance with Company policies, procedures, and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
- Aircraft Airworthiness: Ensure the aircraft is airworthy prior to each flight, conducting thorough preflight inspections and adhering to FARs and Company policies.
- Flight Operations: Safely and proficiently operate the aircraft during designated duty periods under the Captain's guidance, strictly adhering to FARs and Company policies.
- Knowledge and Compliance: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of aircraft equipment, FARs governing aircraft operation, manuals, policies, procedures, and other relevant instructions.
- Crew and Passenger Communication: Inform crew and passengers of potential turbulence, weather conditions, or other operational factors impacting the flight.
- Load Manifest Completion: Accurately complete the load manifest for each flight.
- On-Time Operations: Contribute to efficient and timely operations by assisting the Captain in meeting all reporting times, departure times, and minimum turn times.
- Terminal Support: Assist with the smooth handling of aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo while at the terminal.
- Professionalism: Maintain consistent and reliable attendance, adhering to Company procedures and practices. Present a professional appearance and comply with the Company uniform dress code. Conduct oneself professionally at all times while on duty, following the Rules of Conduct for all associates.
- Continuous Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional training to enhance performance and abilities.
- Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned by the Company and the Captain.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Meet the minimum requirements for an ATP or RATP certificate.
- ATP written examination is preferred.
- Fulfill the current interview and hiring minimum age and flight hours requirements set by the FAA and Company.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and understand technical procedures and governmental regulations, sometimes under pressure or in emergency situations. Effectively communicate information to and respond to inquiries from management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the general public. Speak and be understood in English, including clear verbal commands during emergency situations.
- Reasoning and Problem-Solving: Possess the ability to solve practical problems and manage various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Interpret multiple instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats. Maintain composure and act swiftly and decisively in various emergency situations, including medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, turbulence, and more.
Decision-Making and Impact of Errors
Make decisions that align with the company's strategic direction. Decisions generally fall within a medium range and have moderate significance with moderate consequences. However, in exceptional circumstances, decisions may have significant impact and safety-of-flight implications. Decisions may necessitate additional resource expenditure if not sound and could impact safety. Exhibit the ability to process information quickly and react positively during unexpected or serious situations. Maintain control over personal and emotional responses and act appropriately under high levels of stress.
Physical Demands
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and/or crawl.
- Sit without standing for extended periods of time.
- Lift or move items at various heights weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Adhere to visual demands outlined in FAA medical standards.
- Hear clearly verbal communications in person, on the telephone, and over a headset with ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
- Possess the stamina to work long days, on consecutive days, with frequent changes in temperature, climate, and weather conditions.
- Move freely, effectively, and swiftly within the confined environment of the aircraft.
- Sit comfortably in the pilot's seat or assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without modifications.
Work Environment
- Work near moving mechanical parts.
- Withstand outdoor weather conditions within an open air hangar and on the flight line for extended periods.
- Work in a loud noise environment, necessitating the use of a headset.
- Be willing and able to work extended duty periods on consecutive days, as well as a varied schedule, including early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.
Travel Requirements
- Travel up to 100% of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.
- Be prepared to work extended hours with limited scheduling control and be ready to report to work on short notice.
- Be willing to relocate based on the Company's operational needs.
