First Officer Position
Overview
The First Officer is responsible for supporting the aircraft Captain, ensuring safe and timely piloting of the aircraft, and performing other aircraft management duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The First Officer will:
- Collaborate with the Captain to plan each flight, utilizing all applicable weather information and reports in accordance with Company policies, procedures, and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
- Verify the aircraft's airworthiness in accordance with FARs and Company policies and procedures, conducting thorough preflight inspections.
- Work with the Captain to ensure proper flight planning and fueling, prioritizing safety and adherence to regulations and policies.
- Safely, effectively, and proficiently operate the aircraft during the designated duty period, following the Captain's instructions, FARs, and Company policies and procedures.
- Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of the aircraft, relevant FARs, and all applicable manuals, policies, procedures, and other instructions.
- Inform the crew and passengers of turbulent weather conditions or any other operational factors affecting the flight.
- Prepare and complete the load manifest for each flight.
- Contribute to a reliable and on-time operation by assisting the Captain in meeting all report times, departure times, and minimum turn times.
- While at the terminal, assist with and ensure the proper handling of the aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance according to Company procedures and practices.
- Present a professional appearance, adhering to the Company's uniform dress code.
- Conduct oneself professionally at all times while on duty, observing the Rules of Conduct for all associates, as outlined in the Flight Operations Manual, Associate Handbook, and other related policies and procedures.
- Pursue continuous professional training to enhance performance and abilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Company and the Captain.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to effectively read, analyze, interpret, and understand technical procedures and governmental regulations, often under time constraints or in stressful or emergency situations.
- Demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively present information to and respond to questions from management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the general public.
- Proficient in spoken English, including clear and concise communication during emergency situations.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations where standardization is limited.
- Capability of interpreting multiple instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm, think critically, and react quickly in all types of emergency situations, including but not limited to medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, turbulence, etc.
Decision Making and Impact of Errors
- Makes decisions to support strategic direction, typically of medium range and significance with moderate consequences.
- Decisions may, in unusual situations, be significant and have safety-of-flight consequences.
- Unsound decisions could require additional expenditure of resources and impact safety.
- Ability to process information quickly and react positively during unexpected or serious situations.
- Proven capability to control personal and emotional responses and act appropriately under high levels of stress.
Physical Demands
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and/or crawl.
- Capacity to sit for extended periods without standing.
- Ability to lift or move items weighing up to 75 pounds at various heights.
- Meets the visual demands established by the FAA medical standards.
- Clear hearing, allowing for verbal communication in person, on the telephone, and over a headset with ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
- Possesses the stamina to work long days, on sequential days, with frequent changes in temperatures, climate, and weather conditions.
- Ability to move freely, effectively, and quickly within the confined environment of the aircraft.
- Must be able to comfortably sit in the pilot's seat or assigned jump seat with the seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without any modifications.
Work Environment
- This position requires the ability to work near moving mechanical parts.
- Ability to withstand outdoor weather conditions within an open-air hangar and on the flight line for extended periods.
- Noise levels may be loud, requiring the use of a headset.
- Willingness and ability to work extended duty periods on sequential days, as well as a varied schedule, including early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.
Travel Requirements
- Travel up to 100% of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.
- Ability to work extended hours with a lack of scheduling control and be ready to report to work with little notice.
- Willingness to relocate based on the Company's operational needs.
Education and/or Experience
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Must meet the minimum requirements for an ATP or RATP certificate.
- ATP written is preferred.
- Meets current interview and hiring minimum age and flight hours requirements set by the FAA and Company.
Preferred Education and/or Experience
- Prior customer service experience, preferably in an aviation environment.
