Position Summary
Teal Drones, a wholly owned subsidiary of Red Cat Holdings, is a rapidly advancing technology company dedicated to creating world-class Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) for defense, public safety, and government security organizations. We are currently seeking a motivated, full-time Production Flight Test I professional to join our dynamic Flight Operations team in Salt Lake City, Utah.
This integral, entry-level position focuses on the critical testing, evaluation, and demonstration of our sUAS platforms. The ideal candidate will possess a foundational understanding of UAS technology, FAA regulations, and stringent safety protocols. This role involves close collaboration with our manufacturing, engineering, and development teams to ensure all systems meet and exceed customer requirements. We are looking for an individual who is eager to develop a long-term career in aviation, capable of working both independently and as a collaborative team member.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct meticulous pre-flight inspections and maintenance checks on all UAS equipment to ensure optimal working condition and airworthiness.
- Execute flight tests of UAS to evaluate system performance, reliability, and safety, strictly adhering to all Quality Assurance procedures.
- Operate and maintain a variety of sUAS platforms with precision and expertise.
- Systematically record and analyze flight data, including logs, sensor outputs, and high-resolution imagery and video.
- Communicate effectively with engineers, developers, and other key stakeholders to provide crucial feedback for system improvements.
- Ensure all UAS operations are conducted in full compliance with FAA regulations and all other relevant safety standards.
- Perform comprehensive risk assessments and implement effective mitigation strategies to maintain the highest standards of operational safety.
- Provide constructive feedback and recommendations to management regarding the development and refinement of new UAS technologies.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of the Flight Operations team.
Required Qualifications
- One to two years of professional experience in the drone industry.
- A documented flight log with a minimum of 25 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC).
- Current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
- Experience with various sUAS platforms, including multi-rotor or fixed-wing aircraft.
- Strong technical knowledge of UAS systems and associated support equipment.
- Ability to maintain a clear visual line of sight with UAS up to one kilometer away.
- Willingness to work any shift and overtime as required by operational necessity.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a high degree of attention to detail.
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel as required (estimated at less than 10%).
Additional Desired Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as Aerospace Engineering, Aviation Technology, or UAS Technology.
- A minimum of two years of experience as a professional UAS pilot, relevant military experience, or a Part 61 Airman’s Certificate.
- Previous employment as a test pilot or graduation from a military or civilian equivalent Test Pilot School (TPS).
- Proficiency with PX4, Ardupilot, Mavlink, and QGroundControl.
- Experience with Atlassian products, including Jira and Confluence.
- Familiarity with the FAA Drone Zone, LAANC, Drone NOTAMs, and regulatory waivers.
- Experience with fixed-wing drones and First Person View (FPV) drones, including hobbyist or racing experience.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments across all seasons and in varied weather conditions.
- Capability to remain calm and focused under pressure during critical flight operations.
- Vigilance and strict adherence to safety protocols to ensure personnel well-being and regulatory compliance.
- Stamina for prolonged periods of standing, walking, and accessing observation areas.
- Proficient hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for handling flight equipment and documentation.
- Visual acuity sufficient to monitor flight operations and review documentation with precision.
- Absence of any medical condition that would disqualify the individual from acting as a Remote Pilot in Command per 14CFR §107.17.
