Air Attack Pilot

Ponderosa is actively seeking highly qualified and experienced Air Attack Pilots to join its dedicated team. This critical role involves essential wildfire suppression efforts, requiring exceptional airmanship and a commitment to public safety. The Air Attack Pilot serves a vital function in coordinating aerial resources during fire incidents, operating under stringent safety and operational guidelines set forth by the US Forest Service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting aerial reconnaissance and surveillance of wildfires.
  • Directing airtankers and other aerial firefighting assets.
  • Providing real-time intelligence and communication to ground crews.
  • Ensuring safe and efficient aerial operations in challenging environments.
  • Adhering strictly to all regulatory and company procedures.

Experience Requirements (US Forest Service Mandated and Non-Negotiable):

Candidates must possess a Commercial Pilot Certificate with Multi-Engine Class and an Instrument Rating, along with the following flight experience:

  • Total Flight Time: 1,500 hours
  • Pilot-in-Command (PIC) Total Time: 1,200 hours
  • Pilot-in-Command (PIC) Multi-Engine Airplane Time: 200 hours
  • Fixed-Wing Time (Past 12 Months): 100 hours
  • Cross-Country Time: 500 hours
  • Mountainous Terrain Time: 200 hours (as defined in the Aeronautical Information Manual, Figure 5-6-2)
  • Night Flight Time: 100 hours
  • Instrument Flight Time (in-flight): 50 hours
  • Instrument Flight Time (actual/simulated): 75 hours
  • Make and Model Specific (AC-690): Training and time in the AC-690 aircraft will be provided by Ponderosa during initial training.
