Flight Crew Training Manager

The Flight Crew Training Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of Flight Crew Member (FCM) training programs. This individual will cultivate an industry-leading training experience that fully complies with EASA and National Aviation Authority regulations. They will lead and manage Type Rating Examiners, Instructors, and Training Captains in training and checking FCMs to achieve and maintain the highest standards of professional knowledge, skill, and proficiency. This ensures the provision of fully trained and qualified crews in accordance with NTA policies, procedures, and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, risk assess, and manage EASA AIR-OPS compliant training programs for assigned fleets, adhering to NTA Operations Manual Part D and the Approved Training Organization (ATO) Manual.
  • Plan, develop, and lead the six-monthly Phased Recurrent Program as an interdepartmental project, ensuring that each FCM covers all technical and non-technical requirements for their aircraft type within a three-year period.
  • Develop and implement the Special Airports training program for each fleet, ensuring instructors are qualified to deliver training in accordance with current regulations, airport requirements, and aircraft manufacturer specifications.
  • Lead, mentor, monitor, and manage assigned Examiners, Instructors, and Training Captains, ensuring they meet required qualifications and maximize their performance standards. Develop and execute the annual recurrent training plan for Training Captains to maintain standardization and high-level training delivery.
  • Manage the workload and roster, including assigned office duties, for each fleet’s Senior Training Captain (STC) to ensure fleet-specific expertise is applied to the development of training material, conduct of training events, and support to third-party training providers.
  • Produce and manage bespoke training packages for FCMs who fall below required standards or have been absent from line flying. This includes remedial or additional training to ensure the highest levels of safety, efficiency, and service for line operations. Instigate and participate in FCM and training personnel disciplinary investigations in accordance with policy and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain business relationships with third-party training providers, striving for continuous improvement in the quality and efficiency of training output. Monitor and support third-party training providers through continuous liaison and formal Training Observation to ensure they are properly resourced and deliver training to prescribed standards.
  • As Duty Training Manager, coordinate with the Crew Training Support Manager to provide 24/7 support to ongoing training events and managerial oversight of the Training Support Team, ensuring high standards of safety and training quality while maintaining business continuity and regulatory compliance.
  • Recruit, train, and develop suitable FCMs for the positions of Examiner, Instructor, or Line Training Captain, as directed by the Head of Crew Training, to ensure sufficient training staff to deliver ground and flight training programs according to NTA requirements.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to the Flight Operations and Safety and Compliance Departments for all training matters, as directed by the Head of Crew Training. Participate in operational assessments, personnel management cases, recruitment of new-hire FCMs, safety investigations, risk assessments, and other training-related support as required.
  • Lead or support Training Department or interdepartmental projects, ensuring tasks are coordinated in accordance with procedures to guarantee compliance with regulations, NTA policies, procedures, and departmental goals.
  • Track, monitor, and record individual FCM’s performance on Line Checks and Operator Proficiency Checks. Monitor and analyze feedback from training events to identify trends and focus areas for improvement, driving continuous improvement to training quality.
  • Maintain a Type Rating Instructor qualification, to fully support and supervise the NTA ATO, and maintain flying currency on type with a minimum of 8 simulator/line tours per year. Conduct training, Zero Flight Time Training, Base Checks, pilot conversion training, Line Checks, Assessment Tours, and remedial training.
  • Maintain competency and conduct training events in the CRJ200 simulator, including Command Course, Crew Resource Management, Dispatcher, and remedial training, as well as pilot selection/assessment. Undertake temporary responsibility as FSTD Manager when assigned.
  • Support the Head of Crew Training in planning the Training Department budget to guarantee sufficient resources to achieve established goals.
  • As Human Factors Manager, lead and manage Crew Resource Management Examiners and Instructors to produce and implement CRM training. Plan and implement CRME/I annual assessment and refresher training.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other (KSAOs):

  • NetJets PIC with current or previous Line Training Captain experience.
  • Qualified TRE/TRI (may be obtained in role).
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in pilot training with a minimum of 3000 hours with previous simulator training experience.
  • Training experience in an AIR-OPS environment.
  • Prior managerial experience highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of EASA Air Ops and Part FCL (may be obtained in role).
  • Fluency in Business English (written and spoken).
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
