Purpose of Position

The First Officer plays a critical role in delivering a superior air transportation experience, upholding an industry-leading safety record on every flight. This position represents the face of NetJets, providing not only technically accurate and safe transportation but also ensuring an exceptional service experience for every NetJets Owner and passenger. The First Officer is expected to effectively embody a multifaceted role, ranging from a professional aviator to an in-flight service provider, delivering a concierge-level experience. The First Officer is fully in command of the aircraft at all times and is expected to consistently maintain a professional demeanor.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The First Officer's duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the safe operation of the aircraft from taxi, take-off, and landing of each flight, adhering strictly to FAA guidelines, Original Equipment Manufacturer's (OEM) Checklists, NetJets Flight Operations Manual (FOM) or Aircraft Operating Manual (AOM), and Standard Operating Practices (SOPs).
  • Greeting Owners/passengers pre-flight, facilitating introductions, providing a comprehensive brief on the specific flight/trip, verifying itinerary details, offering weather updates, conducting safety briefings, and explaining any itinerary changes.
  • Providing in-flight service as needed, which includes the handling of alcoholic beverages and the service of catering.
  • Proficiently loading and properly stowing all Owner baggage on the aircraft.
  • Competently handling and conducting flights for Owners traveling with pets and those who smoke.
  • Acting as the final authority on his/her assigned aircraft with respect to all areas of operation, including ensuring compliance with all applicable safety and regulatory guidance.
  • Serving as a dedicated liaison for Owners/passengers and NetJets from the moment Owners/passengers arrive at the Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) until they have safely landed at their final destination and departed the final FBO.
  • Responsibly communicating any maintenance abnormalities or discrepancies to the Company via the aircraft Maintenance Control Center (MCC) Controller on duty for their specific fleet.
  • Accurately completing all associated paperwork for maintenance abnormalities or discrepancies.
  • Performing other duties as assigned, depending on specific operational requirements.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Certifications and Licenses

  • Written FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate.
  • Current FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • FCC Restricted Radio Operator's Permit.
  • Valid United States Passport.
  • Valid State Driver's License.

Flight Experience and Requirements (IAW 14 CFR Part 61.160)

  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Minimum 1,500 hours total flight time experience, or:
    • 1,250 hours with an appropriate university R-ATP certificate, or
    • 1,000 hours with military pilot qualification, or
    • 1,000 hours with an appropriate university R-ATP certificate.
  • Minimum 200 hours cross-country flight time (>50 nm).
  • Minimum 250 hours fixed-wing Pilot in Command (PIC) time.
  • Minimum 100 hours of night flying, or 75 hours with at least 45 night takeoffs and landings.
  • Minimum 75 hours of instrument time (actual or simulated in-flight, excluding simulator time).
  • ATP written exam must be completed prior to the start of Indoctrination Training.
  • Minimum 50 hours fixed-wing multi-engine time.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements (KSAOs)

  • Authorization to work in the U.S. and to travel in and out of the country without restriction.
  • Ability to work varying hours, including day and night, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • Demonstrated extreme flexibility and ability to adjust to rapid operational changes.
  • Proficient in managing personal rest to ensure preparedness for flight duty at all times during assigned tours.
  • Duty periods may extend up to fourteen hours per day for as many as eight consecutive days, potentially spanning different time zones and extreme weather conditions within a single trip.
  • Extended periods away from home, typically seven or more days and nights, requiring hotel stays.
  • Ability to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US Customs security badges.
  • Successful completion of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) required background screening.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language.
  • Strong service-orientation with a neat, well-groomed appearance and a proven ability to make a positive impression, alongside strong capabilities to effectively interact with passengers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to make quick and accurate decisions while maintaining close attention to detail, from both a technical aviation and passenger-service perspective.
  • Physical capability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Ability to work comfortably around animals, including their handling and care before, during, and after Owner flights.
  • Ability to conduct flights for Owners who smoke.

Base Salary Range

The base salary range for this position is $86,015 - $117,706 annually.
