Mission:

The mission of the Corporate Aviation Chief Pilot is to provide Michelin employee’s safe, time-saving and economical on-demand travel. The Pilot is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the company aircraft as well as managing all aspects of flight operations. When assigned to a flight, the Pilot is the final authority in the operation of the aircraft and reports directly to the Flight Department Manager. The Chief Pilot is also responsible for managing the Corporate Aviation Department, both the Pilots and the aviation maintenance department.

Key Expected Achievements:

  • Acts as the manager of the Aviation Department at Michelin NA. Manages Pilots and maintenance staff.
  • Acts as pilot in command of flight for which he/she has been scheduled
  • Plan flights with consideration of weather, NOTAMS, aircraft capabilities, mission requirements, company requirements and aircraft airworthiness ensuring that preflight inspections are performed and all required documents are on board
  • Prepares and files flight plans both domestic and international, utilizing all available resources and aircraft capabilities for maximum efficiency
  • Ensures that the aircraft is clean and prepared for flight with provisions on board for the safety and comfort of the passengers
  • Calculates the aircraft weight and balance, performance and fuel requirements while being mindful of fuel pricing and landing fees
  • Briefs passengers according to company and FAA requirements
  • Flies safely, which involves continuous management of all systems and situations that affect the flight while maintaining passenger comfort, safety and well-being
  • Ensures compliance with all Federal, State, Local and foreign regulations
  • Complies with customs, immigration and cabotage laws on international trips
  • Completes all post flight duties including post flight inspection, maintenance reports and company record-keeping forms
  • Utilizes Michelin standard operating procedures, effective crew resource management, communication and procedures specified in the company operation manual
  • Ensures the passengers needs and expectations are met throughout the flight
  • Assists the Flight Department Manager with various ancillary duties, projects and studies as assigned;
  • Travel by air and overnight, as required
  • Lifting and/or bending as required for servicing flights
  • Available for flight duty on flexible notice
  • Ability to be successful in the following training scenarios:
    • Periodic flight training
    • Safety Management System processes, including Risk Analysis and Mitigation, Human Factors and Accident/Incident Prevention
    • Various software systems including Microsoft Office Suite, iPad and related software applications; including mobile technology applications and PFM Flight Management System

Requirements:

  • FAA Airline Transport Rating (ATP) with airplane multi-engine land and instrument ratings
  • Must have a Valid U.S. Passport and the ability to travel with no restrictions
  • Must hold an FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit
  • Qualifies for FAA 1st Class Medical Certificate

Preferences:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent preferred
  • 5000 Total hours of flight experience, 1000 hours in jet-powered aircraft and 2000 hours PIC in multi-engine aircraft
  • Experience in Multi-crew environment (2 pilots)
  • Experience in Crew Resource Management (CRM) – working in 2 pilot setting
  • Familiarity with FAA FAR Part 91 and ICAO Annexes
  • International flight experience into Canada & Mexico
  • Broad knowledge of all functions related to aircraft operations
  • Knowledge of advanced aircraft systems and avionics
  • Knowledge, understanding and appreciation for Safety Management System processes, including Risk Analysis and Mitigation, Human Factors and Accident/Incident Prevention
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, iPad and related software applications; including mobile technology applications
  • Working familiarity with the civilian Air Traffic Control system in high density airspace
  • Interpersonal skills and flexibility to be successful in a small team environment (6 pilots)
  • Engaged and self-driven on business related objectives
