Position Summary
Metrea Strategic Mobility is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead C-135FR Pilot. This pivotal role involves the safe, effective, and expert operation of the C-135FR aircraft. The Lead Pilot will provide operational leadership combined with deep technical expertise, supporting all facets of flight operations, training, and fleet integration. As both a command pilot and a technical advisor, the incumbent will ensure paramount mission readiness and procedural excellence throughout all flight phases.
Role and Responsibilities
Flight Operations & Command Duties
- Commands a three-person crew during both emergency and non-emergency scenarios, ensuring safe and efficient mission execution.
- Conducts comprehensive pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight inspections, checklists, and documentation in strict accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Maintains acute situational awareness and consistently applies Crew Resource Management (CRM) principles across all flight phases.
- Adheres rigorously to company Flight Operation Procedures (FOPs), Ground Operation Procedures (GOPs), FAA regulations, and all safety notices.
- Maintains all required flight currencies, qualifications, and advanced systems knowledge pertinent to the MSM KC-135 tanker fleet.
- Ensures the safe operation of the aircraft in all flight phases, including normal, abnormal, and emergency situations.
Expertise & Training
- Provides expert technical support and guidance on the proper operation of communication, navigation, and surveillance systems.
- Conducts hands-on training for personnel on C-135FR systems, cockpit layout, and switchology.
- Participates in recurring virtual meetings with MSM aircrew and staff to discuss operational procedures, systems, and fleet issues.
- Provides constructive feedback on aircrew progress during weekly teleconferences with MSM staff.
Fleet Support
- Offers crucial on-site technical support during flights.
- Is available and fully qualified to fly onboard the C-135FR aircraft as required.
- Executes all other duties necessary to support the mission and ensure the operational readiness of the C-135FR fleet.
Skills and Experience
Education
- A college degree or equivalent qualification is required.
Experience
- A minimum of nine (9) years of demonstrated experience working directly with the C-135FR aircraft.
- Proven and demonstrable attention to detail skills.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, including the capacity to identify causes of errors and determine effective courses of action.
- Must be able to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to comprehend and interpret information presented in written format, diagrams, and schematics.
- Proficiency in the English language, both oral and written, is essential.
Computer Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products, specifically Word and Excel.
Certifications & Licenses
- A required C-135FR rating, valid until at least 2020.
- A valid Driver’s License.
- A current Passport.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Ability to maintain all applicable medical and flight certifications.

Work Authorization & Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a French citizen, capable of obtaining and maintaining an active NATO Secret clearance. Furthermore, the individual must be legally authorized to work and able to obtain and maintain work visas in various countries, including India.
Position Type & Travel
This is a full-time position. Typical working hours are 7-hour days, often including 45-60 day rotations abroad. Work hours and shifts may be adjusted based on departmental and business requirements. The primary work location is in France, with frequent international rotations. This role operates in both an office setting and onboard the aircraft during flight operations. Significant domestic and international travel is required, approximately 49% of the time, on a 45-60 day rotational basis.
