Aviation Training Lead/Chief Pilot - Contract Opportunity
Our client, a leading provider of aviation support, seeks an experienced Aviation Training Implementation Lead/Chief Pilot for a contract position. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a well-established organization and its commitment to class-leading aviation solutions.
Location: Gatwick, West Sussex. Hybrid or virtual arrangements near Manchester Airport will be considered.
Employment Type: Fixed-Term Contract, with an anticipated start date as soon as possible and lasting until December 2025.
Role Overview:
This position supports a major OEM client in the implementation of Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) and Evidence-Based Training (EBT) programs, which are designed to enhance aviation safety. The successful candidate will provide support and capacity within the client's global CBTA Deployment team throughout 2025. The CBTA Deployment team is integral to the client's Training Solutions division, dedicated to developing capable and resilient commercial aviation professionals. Their globally recognized training products are underpinned by extensive knowledge and research aimed at increasing learning efficacy and enhancing aviation safety.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a CBTA Deployment team of subject matter experts at customer airlines to determine their specific needs in transitioning to the client's CBTA/EBT program.
- Leverage prior instructor experience to review pilot training requirements, determine appropriate competency-based training content, objectives, and design, aligning with the CBTA/EBT program framework.
- Oversee activities related to the airline's development, delivery, and evaluation of competency-based training and assessment (CBTA).
- Evaluate the airline's existing training philosophy and provide support during its transition to a CBTA/EBT program.
- Gather data and provide detailed reports to support proposed CBTA development activities at the airline.
- Evaluate the accuracy and quality of airline training delivery, present proposals to the customer, and consult with stakeholders regarding the airline's CBTA program.
Required Experience:
- Possession of, or prior experience holding, a commercial pilot license, preferably with experience on Boeing aircraft. (Note: This is a non-flying role.)
- Ideally, a minimum of 3 years in a management position within an airline Flight Operations or Training Department.
- Excellent understanding of regulatory requirements for pilot training programs.
- Comprehensive understanding of the principles underlying CBTA and EBT programs.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Demonstrable experience in leading a team remotely and independently.
- Understanding of Safety Management System (SMS) principles and their applicability to pilot training.
- Extensive pilot instructional background (TRI/TRE) with greater than 3 years of experience.
- Proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects across diverse areas, ideally within the commercial airline training sector.
- Solid understanding of project and program management principles and practices.
