Lakota LUH-72A Synthetic Flight Training Simulator (SFTS) Instructor Operator
Leidos, a leader in innovative digital and mission solutions, is seeking a highly qualified Lakota LUH-72A Synthetic Flight Training Simulator (SFTS) Instructor Operator. This critical role supports the Army National Guard (ANG) Aviation Training Services and Operational Support (ATSOS) program, based in Grand Island, Nebraska. The selected candidate will provide expert simulation-based flight training, classroom instruction, and schoolhouse support, ensuring aviators are proficient in critical flight and emergency procedures.
About the Role
The Integrated Airborne Solutions (IAS) Division of Leidos is looking for an experienced Simulator Instructor Operator to contribute to the AATS training mission. This position involves training regionally supported units using advanced simulation devices, including the LUH-72A Synthetic Flight Training System (SFTS). The role demands a proactive approach to training delivery, scenario development, and maintaining comprehensive training records.
Primary Responsibilities
- Deliver simulated flight training to AATS students and regional simulation users, focusing on aircraft systems, emergency procedures, and instrument flight.
- Develop and maintain engaging mission training scenarios for regional users.
- Provide instruction and evaluation for student pilots in accordance with approved Training Support Packages (TSPs) and Courses of Instruction (COIs).
- Conduct Aircrew Coordination Training-Enhanced (ACT-E) as per approved TSPs.
- Maintain accurate training records for formal course students and in Aviation Training Plan (ATP) records for readiness level progression.
- Deliver academic platform instruction for specialized courses, including Instructor Operator, Instrument Flight Examiner Prep, and various AATS courses.
- Facilitate pre-mission planning and comprehensive after-action reviews for all simulation sessions.
- Ensure adherence to all Aircrew Training Program (ATP) requirements, including DCMA INST 8210-1D, AR 95-1, and applicable dATM.
- Develop, update, and publish training schedules using an electronic database.
- Organize and conduct the annual simulation scheduling conference.
- Track schedule changes and prepare monthly reports on simulator and hardware maintenance trainer performance.
- Collaborate daily with simulator maintenance contractors to monitor maintenance status and service requests.
- Coordinate with unit course managers to reserve formal course simulation time.
- Liaise with regional users, National Guard Bureau, and PEO-STRI representatives to optimize device utilization and report on allocation compliance.
- Verify and correct contractor device performance reports, forwarding them to the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR).
- Update flight schedules based on maintenance requirements.
- Maintain and review a publication library containing historical information and facility reports for all simulators.
- Serve as an RFMSS (Range and Facility Management Support System) Fire Desk Operator, scheduling all simulator training periods within specified timeframes.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree with 4-8 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s Degree with 2-6 years of relevant experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Qualified as an Instructor Pilot in the LUH-72A simulator and an Instrument Flight Examiner, or possess a minimum of three years of experience as an Aviation Simulator Instructor Operator (I/O) in the LUH-72A.
- Prior experience training or operating with Army Aviation or a military equivalent is required.
- USAACE / AATS qualified Instructor Pilot in the LUH-72A, or a minimum of 3 years of experience as an I/O in the assigned device.
- Instructor Training Course (ITC) or ABIC qualified, or able to graduate from an AATS provided ABIC course within 12 months of employment.
- Must meet instructor qualification requirements set by the Aviation proponent and in accordance with TR 350-10, TR 350-70.
- Qualified as a unit trainer, instructor pilot, or maintenance test flight examiner with demonstrated simulator operations experience in the LUH-72A Lakota or Airbus H145 equivalent.
- USAACE qualified Instrument Flight Examiner.
- Satisfactory completion of unit aircrew training program within 3 months of hire if not an instructor pilot, in accordance with AR95-1, 4-11e(2) and FR350-1.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products.

Pay Range: $63,700.00 - $115,150.00 annually. This range is a guideline; actual compensation will be determined by factors such as responsibilities, education, experience, skills, and internal equity.
