Senior Instructor - Aviation Electronics and Fiber Optics
Leidos is seeking a dynamic Senior Instructor to join the National Airspace System Integration Support Contract (NISC IV) team. This individual will support the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Eastern Service Area (ESA) NISC support team, providing outstanding customer service to FAA customers receiving NISC services. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the NISC IV mission by delivering technical instruction for new-hire electronics personnel, equipping them with the requisite skills to perform fiber optics projects assigned to Engineering Services.
This is a remote consulting position with travel requirements to Lakeland, FL, or other locations as needed, to conduct in-person training.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Senior Instructor will provide comprehensive classroom instruction to students through lectures, demonstrations, laboratory exercises, handouts, question responses, and assessments. Courses will be taught in person, potentially including both day and evening sessions.
- Assist students in developing fundamental skills required to serve as entry-level fiber optic cable installers or technicians.
- Instruct fundamental principles of fiber optic technology, including knowledge of different fiber types, splicing techniques, network design, safety protocols, and the use of specialized tools for connecting and activating fiber optic networks.
- Teach electronic and fiber optic fundamental safety, including but not limited to PPE, cable handling, proper handling of various chemicals, cleaners, and adhesives, adherence to industry standards, and ensuring proper training to avoid injury and damage.
- Provide comprehensive classroom and laboratory instruction to students.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of working knowledge of FAA electrical and electronics systems are essential.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and engineering scheduling tools. Ability to effectively use the Internet for information gathering and communication is required.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to produce clear and concise general and technical documentation and tactfully coordinate with a variety of project stakeholders, peers, and management.
- Basic knowledge of multiple disciplines regarding their general requirements for typical FAA electrical and electronics systems.
