Senior Instructor - Aviation Electronics and Fiber Optics

Leidos is seeking a dynamic Senior Instructor to join the National Airspace System Integration Support Contract (NISC IV) team. This individual will support the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Eastern Service Area (ESA) NISC support team, providing outstanding customer service to FAA customers receiving NISC services. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the NISC IV mission by providing technical instruction to new hire electronics personnel, equipping them with the skills necessary to perform fiber optics projects assigned to Engineering Services.

This is a remote consulting position, and the successful candidate can be located anywhere in the US. Travel to Lakeland, FL, or other locations as needed to conduct classes will be required.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Senior Instructor will provide classroom instruction to students through lectures, demonstrations, laboratory exercises, and handouts. Responsibilities include answering student questions and administering tests. Courses will be taught in-person, potentially including day and evening sessions.

The Instructor will assist students in developing fundamental skills required to serve as entry-level fiber optic cable installers or technicians. Instruction will cover:

• Fundamental principles of fiber optic technology, including different fiber types, splicing techniques, network design, and safety protocols.
• Proper use of specialized tools to connect and activate fiber optic networks.
• Electronic and fiber optic fundamental safety, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), cable handling, and the proper handling of various chemicals, cleaners, and adhesives.
• Adherence to industry standards to ensure proper training and prevent injury and damage.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of working knowledge of FAA electrical and electronics systems are required.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and engineering scheduling tools. Must be able to use the internet effectively for research and communication.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. The candidate must be able to produce clear and concise general and technical writing and coordinate tactfully with project stakeholders, peers, and management.
• Basic knowledge of multiple disciplines regarding general requirements for typical FAA electrical and electronics systems is necessary.
