Position Overview

Leidos Airborne Solutions Australia is seeking experienced Captains to join a life-saving Search and Rescue (SAR) fleet. Based in Perth, Melbourne, or Cairns, the successful candidate will command Challenger 604 jets under contract with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA). This role involves high-impact aviation operations, including offshore rescues, emergency response, and humanitarian aid across Australia’s SAR region.

Compensation

The annual salary for this position is $175,796.73 plus 12% superannuation, in addition to generous allowances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Command SAR missions in dynamic, time-critical environments.
  • Lead and mentor flight crews to maintain the highest standards of safety and professionalism.
  • Operate advanced mission systems with precision and confidence.
  • Oversee aircraft readiness and comprehensive mission planning.
  • Contribute to ongoing innovation in SAR capabilities.

Requirements

  • Must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident (ITAR restrictions apply).
  • Hold an Australian ATPL(A) and MEA Instrument Rating.
  • Possess a current CASA Class 1 Medical.
  • Eligibility to obtain an Aviation Security Identity Card (ASIC).
  • Minimum 3,000 hours total flying time, including:
    • 1,500 hours multi-engine time.
    • 1,000 hours command time.
  • Jet experience is highly regarded.
  • Ability to reside within 30 minutes of the assigned base when on night standby.

Recruitment Process

The selection process includes one online behavioural-based interview, a simulator assessment in Melbourne, and background checks, including a police check and pre-employment medical. Applicants may also need to meet International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements.
