Job Description:

L-3Harris is seeking instructor pilot candidates who meet our high standards of aviator skills, safety, professionalism, and customer focus. As the Armed Overwatch, Sky Warden weapons system provider, our vision is to consistently be the world’s best sustainment provider for aerospace systems. Instructor Pilots (IPs) are responsible for day-to-day mission accomplishment of the organization’s flight training program in support of the USAF. They provide training and guidance to all student pilots, combat systems officers, and continuation training to existing aircrew. Prospective candidates will have demonstrated skills in balancing administrative, tactical and technical aspects of the position across all aircraft platforms. IP candidates will be dedicated to continuous improvement and must have the ability to motivate and effectively deliver instruction to USAF transition and undergraduate pilots and combat systems officers. Duties will be evenly distributed between flight instruction and classroom academic instruction. IP positions may also be contract Evaluator’s for the purposes of DCMA 8210.1C compliance. Work schedule flexibility and extended hours may required during fllight instruction periods.

Essential Functions:

  • Operate the AT-802U/OA-1K and train USAF personnel to operate the AT-802U/OA-1K aircraft in accordance with FAA, company and customer directives while operating under day, night and Night Vision Goggle (NVG) / night vision enhanced devices at designated locations.
  • Coordinates with maintenance personnel to analyze and correct aircraft discrepancies.
  • Interacts with the program leadership supporting operational training requirements.
  • Administer ground and flight instruction to pilots and combat systems officers per the approved syllabus of instruction
  • Develops, schedules, and coordinates the pilot and combat systems officer training requirements
  • Reviews and updates courses, courseware and classroom programs of instruction and other instructional materials as required
  • Develops and maintains aircrew training records
  • May serve as Standardization Evaluator who administers AF Form 8 check rides
  • Conduct remedial flight training, document and recommend corrective actions as appropriate
  • Conduct aircrew annual and continuation training per USAF regulatory guidance and company policy
  • Candidates may be assigned other duties as directed by management

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years relevant experience, or
  • Active Department of Defense Secret security clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain that clearance.
  • FAA Commercial Single Engine Land, Instrument Airplane.
  • FAA Certified Flight Instructor-Instrument Certificate (Single Engine Land) or military equivalent.
  • FAA Second Class Medical certificate (current).
  • FAA Tailwheel Endorsement.
  • Minimum of 1,000 hours of total documented flight experience
  • Minimum of 300 hours of AT-802 series experience or,
  • Minimum 500 hours flight time in turbine-powered agricultural type airplanes which includes at least 100 hours of flight time in an AT-802 series airplane.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience as a Department of Defense Flight Instructor/Evaluator.
  • AT-802 Factory Authorized IP certification.
  • 3,000 hours of total documented flight experience.
  • 100 hours backseat A-660 or AT-802 instructional experience.
  • FAA NVG Instructor Endorsement.
  • Air to ground ordnance delivery and/or intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) flight experience.
  • AT-802F aerial tanker experience may be considered for this requirement.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $48,500.00 - $90,500.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. L3Harris also offers a variety of benefits, including health and disability insurance, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, EAP, education assistance, parental leave, paid time off, and company-paid holidays. The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements.
