Job Summary
Kalitta Charters is seeking a professional and safety-oriented Pilot in Command (PIC) to join our flight operations team. The PIC holds primary authority and responsibility for the safe conduct of flight operations, the safety of crew, passengers, and cargo, and full compliance with our Safety Management System. This role reports directly to the Chief Pilot and requires a proactive approach to operational security, crew supervision, and effective coordination during medical transport missions.
Key Responsibilities

Maintain full operational authority and responsibility for the aircraft.

Ensure the safety of all crewmembers, passengers, and cargo.

Serve as the Ground and In-flight Security Coordinator.

Direct and supervise all crewmembers during flight operations.

Perform all duties as the pilot not flying when applicable, while maintaining situational awareness of the pilot flying.

Coordinate with medical crews regarding patient needs and cabin conditions during air ambulance missions.

Execute required visual pre-takeoff contamination checks in winter weather conditions.

Ensure sufficient fuel levels for safe flight completion prior to departure.

Maintain accountability for all safety and quality standards.
Requirements
Education
-
High School Diploma or GED required; Aviation-related college degree preferred.
Qualifications and Licenses

FAA Commercial Pilot License with an Instrument Rating.

First Class Medical Certificate.

Valid, unrestricted US Passport.

Valid, unrestricted driver’s license.

FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Permit.
Experience and Skills
-
Minimum of 2,000 hours total flight time.
-
Minimum of 1,000 hours multi-engine time.
-
LR-JET/LR-45 PIC type rating preferred.

Proficiency in basic MS Office and computer software.
-
Must pass DOT/FAA pre-employment drug screen and compliant background check.

Strong organizational, communication, and multi-tasking skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-focused environment while maintaining a safety-first mindset.
Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, sit, talk, and hear to operate aircraft, computer, and telephone equipment.

Must be capable of lifting up to 75 lbs. and assisting with aircraft loading/unloading as needed.
Work Environment and Schedule

Rotation:
Two weeks on, two weeks off.

Availability:
Must be available full-time for assigned shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

This position is based in Ypsilanti, MI; no work-from-home or remote options are available. No relocation package is provided.
