Job Overview

The Flight Research team at Joby Aviation is actively recruiting an experienced Remote Pilot to command research and development Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) platforms. Leveraging extensive experience in operating medium to large UAS, the successful candidate will assume pilot-in-command responsibilities to support flight test operations within the National Airspace System. This role is integral to a dynamic, agile team and will involve a range of duties including hands-on work with aircraft and ground support equipment, adherence to standard operating procedures, and collaboration with engineers on pre- and post-test activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the remote pilot in command for diverse R&D aircraft platforms.
  • Execute comprehensive preflight planning and system inspections.
  • Contribute to test planning efforts and participate in rehearsal flights.
  • Compile and submit post-flight reports, both internally and externally.
  • Collaborate effectively with crewmembers during preparation, execution, and post-test phases.
  • Provide detailed feedback and actionable recommendations for system enhancements.
  • Maintain strict adherence to standard operating procedures and all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Champion and uphold a robust safety culture.

Required Qualifications

  • Possess a Part 61 Private Pilot certificate with an Instrument rating.
  • Hold a Part 107 Remote Pilot certificate.
  • Demonstrate experience operating Group 3+ UAS platforms.
  • Exhibit proficiency in manual (non-GPS) and/or augmented flight modes, utilizing a traditional RC controller interface for conventional takeoff and landing aircraft.
  • Experience with fully automated remote flight operations.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or possess equivalent experience and training.
  • Accumulate at least 3 years of directly relevant experience.
  • Possess significant UAS experience, with a minimum of 300 flight hours and/or 200 sorties, depending on platform specifics.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
  • Read and speak English proficiently.

Export Control Compliance: This position is subject to US export control laws and regulations. Candidates must qualify as a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15, which includes US Citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees.

Joby Aviation offers a competitive compensation package comprising base salary and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The anticipated base salary range for this position is $113,900 to $151,900 annually, with the final compensation determined by the candidate's relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
