Role Overview
The Flight Research team is seeking an experienced Senior Remote Pilot to operate research and development UAS platforms and lead daily flight operations onsite. This role involves fulfilling Pilot in Command duties for medium to large Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) within the National Airspace System. The successful candidate will support flight test operations, develop standard operating procedures, and collaborate closely with engineers on pre- and post-test activities, including hands-on work with aircraft and ground support equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Senior Remote Pilot in Command for various research and development aircraft platforms.
- Conduct comprehensive preflight planning and system inspections.
- Support test planning initiatives and participate in test rehearsals.
- Generate detailed internal and external post-flight reports.
- Lead crewmembers during the preparation, execution, and conclusion of flight test activities.
- Uphold a rigorous safety culture and maintain ground support equipment.
Required Qualifications
- FAA Part 61 Private Pilot certificate with an Instrument rating.
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot certificate.
- Current Class 3 Medical certificate.
- Proven experience operating Group 3 or larger UAS.
- Proficiency in manual (non-GPS) and augmented flight modes using traditional RC controller interfaces for conventional takeoff and landing aircraft.
- Experience with fully automated remote flight operations.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience and training.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant aviation experience.
- Significant UAS flight time, typically exceeding 300 hours and 200 sorties depending on the platform.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in policy and procedure development.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work extended hours and travel as required by the flight test schedule.
- Proficiency in reading and speaking the English language.
- Must qualify as a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 for export control compliance.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- FAA Part 61 Commercial Pilot certificate.
- Experience supporting the development of new aircraft or subsystems.
- Background in flight test engineering or acceptance testing.
- Experience conducting UAS operations within the National Airspace System beyond Part 107 regulations.
- Advanced experience in standard operating procedure (SOP) development.
- Basic knowledge of CAD, manufacturing processes, or systems engineering.
- Valid A&P license or similar maintenance experience.
- Experience in the design and build of aircraft, ground stations, or subsystems.
Compensation and Benefits
The target base salary for this position ranges from $111,900 to $191,200 per year, determined by the candidate's skills, experience, and knowledge. Compensation also includes Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
