Overview

Joby Aviation seeks a qualified Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) to join the Joby Aviation Academy team in Watsonville, CA. The position is benefit-eligible, with a start date as soon as possible, based on the applicant's availability.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing flight training in Van's RV12 aircraft, as well as delivering ground instruction. Initially, training will be focused on enhancing the core aviation knowledge of company employees and public students. This role will also contribute to developing a Part 141 flight training curriculum to support the future pipeline of Joby pilots. Responsibilities

  • Conduct flight instruction and associated activities, encompassing pre-flight planning, briefing, ground and flight lessons, and post-flight debriefs.
  • Contribute to internal flight safety and standardization discussions.
  • Maintain all required documentation according to company and FAA procedures.
  • Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and obligations during company business.
  • Maintain safe working practices and comply with established procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Airplane Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certificate
  • Demonstrated passion for assisting others in pursuing aviation careers.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work weekends and extended hours.
  • Proficient in reading and speaking English.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Desired Qualifications

  • Airplane Certified Flight Instrument Instructor (CFII) certificate
  • Experience instructing in a Part 141 training environment.
  • Minimum of 250 hours of dual instruction given.
  • Experience developing aviation training materials.
  • Multi-engine pilot certificate.
  • Current proficiency in Van’s RV12 or other Light Sport Airplanes (LSA).

Compensation

The company offers an hourly Billable Instruction Rate of $45 for all hours spent providing Billable Instruction. An hourly Administrative Rate of $20 will be paid for required work duties not categorized as Billable Instruction. Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), determined by job-related skills, knowledge, and experience.
