About the Role:
The First Officer plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of JetBlue flights. Working closely with the Pilot in Command, this individual will share responsibility for the safe outcome of each flight, adhering to all Federal Aviation Regulations and company procedures. The First Officer will also play a key role in delivering the renowned JetBlue experience to our valued customers, consistently demonstrating our core values of Safety, Caring, Integrity, Passion, and Fun.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Captain in ensuring the safe operation of all flights, adhering to Federal Aviation Regulations and company policies.
- Safely operate the aircraft in accordance with all regulations and procedures.
- Provide an exceptional customer experience that reflects JetBlue's core values.
- Collaborate effectively with Crewmembers and partners to address customer or operational challenges.
- Maintain all required skills, training, and qualifications.
- Uphold and adhere to JetBlue's Safety Management System, Safety Policy, Security Policy, and behavioral standards.
- Proactively identify and report any safety or security concerns through appropriate channels, including confidential reporting systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Diploma
- Valid FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate with airplane category and multiengine class ratings (Unrestricted)
- 1500 hours total time, with a minimum of 500 hours in fixed-wing aircraft
- Current FAA First Class Medical Certificate
- Valid FCC Radiotelephone Operator's Permit
- Current US passport or permanent residence card with applicable visas, valid for travel to all JetBlue destinations (minimum 6 months validity remaining)
- Three reference letters from pilots attesting to the candidate's flying skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader, and iOS browsers
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
- Strong creative thinking, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to report to the assigned base location within 2 hours of notice
- Adherence to JetBlue Flight Crewmember Uniform Appearance Standards
- Knowledge of basic computer and electronic tablet devices
- Ability to understand and follow guidance from required manuals
- Strong teamwork skills aligned with delivering the JetBlue Experience
- Flexibility to work varying schedules, including reserve duty, weekends, evenings, holidays, and last-minute drafting
- Possession of a valid US Driver's License and a driving record that meets JetBlue Insurance Standards
- Ability to pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
- Legal eligibility to work in the United States (this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Letters of recommendation from current JetBlue Pilots
- 3500 hours or more of total flight time in aircraft (including turbine helicopter, excluding simulator and Flight Engineer)
- More than 1,000 hours of turbine Pilot in Command experience (Fixed wing)
- More than 1,000 hours in aircraft utilizing EFIS and/or FMS systems
- Recent flying experience (more than 200 hours within the last 12 months)
Crewmember Expectations:
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Be flexible to work varying hours and respond to short-notice requests.
- Maintain a professional appearance.
- Assist with light aircraft cleaning when working or traveling on JetBlue flights, if time permits.
- Embody the JetBlue culture and demonstrate our core values.
- Fulfill all safety accountabilities outlined in JetBlue's Safety Management System.
- Act as a Safety Ambassador, promoting JetBlue's safety culture and adhering to its SMS components, Safety Policy, and behavioral standards.
- Identify and report any safety or security concerns through appropriate channels, including confidential reporting systems.
- Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.), and company policies.
- Contribute to JetBlue's safety performance metric goals.
Work Environment:
- This role involves working in a normal cockpit and ramp environment, as required by FAA Pilot duties.
- Frequent ascent and descent of jet bridge stairs is required.
- Work is performed in an airport environment with non-traditional work hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Shift coverage is required for the 24/7 flight schedule.
- Crewmembers must be available to work any schedule and may be required to be away from home for up to six consecutive days.
- Irregular operations may occasionally result in extended workdays.
Physical Effort:
- This role is generally sedentary; however, it may require lifting up to 10 pounds occasionally.
