Position Summary
Jet Aviation is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Lead Captain to ensure the safe, secure, and efficient conduct of all assigned flight operations. Reporting directly to the Regional Chief Pilot, the Lead Captain will serve as the final authority for flight safety, exercising Pilot-in-Command authority in strict adherence to company operating policies, procedures, and aviation regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Flight Operations & Safety Leadership:
- Exercises Pilot-in-Command authority, ensuring the safe and prudent operation of assigned aircraft in full compliance with federal, local, and company regulations and policies.
- Determines optimal departure times, routes, and flight plans, making critical decisions regarding flight continuation or cancellation based on prevailing conditions.
- Conducts thorough pre-flight analysis, including obtaining current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs, and analyzing relevant charts for intended landing and alternate airports.
- Accurately completes all required trip paperwork and flight/duty records in accordance with current procedures.
- Acts as the In-flight Security Coordinator (ISC) under applicable security programs.
- Ensures a complete and thorough understanding of all flight aspects with the Second-in-Command.
- Imparts knowledge and skills to the Second-in-Command to prepare them for emergency Pilot-in-Command duties or future upgrades.
- Actively supports and promotes an open safety culture, reporting all safety hazards, concerns, or hazardous events immediately to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- Crew Management & Development:
- Coordinates aircraft schedules, training, and time off with flight crew members and the Customer Service Representative (CSR), ensuring maximum aircraft coverage and efficient use of supplemental crew as needed.
- Ensures all assigned crew members are mentally and physically fit for duty and present in proper attire.
- Mentors, coaches, and supports the professional development of crew members.
- Conducts annual performance reviews for assigned crew members.
- Assists in the recruitment and hiring of new flight crew members.
- Coordinates crew member training and check rides in conjunction with the Manager of Training based on the annual training calendar.
- Aircraft Management & Coordination:
- Liaises with the Maintenance Manager regarding aircraft servicing, cleaning, and discrepancy resolution.
- Records all aircraft discrepancies on the discrepancy log, reporting them immediately to the Director of Maintenance (DOM) or designee, and determines deferral or repair based on the approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL) and DOM directives.
- Maintains a comprehensive working knowledge of all aircraft systems, including emergency systems and procedures, for aircraft authorized to operate.
- Ensures aircraft manuals, Jeppesen charts, and Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs) are current, delegating tasks as appropriate.
- Secures the aircraft after each flight, arranging hangar storage if deemed necessary or instructed by company management.
- Operational & Administrative Duties:
- Attends Lead Captain meetings and assists the Account Director as requested.
- Completes and sends the leg manifest to Operations Control prior to each departure.
- Completes and sends the End of Day (EOD) report to Operations Control upon completion of each flight day.
- Company Representation:
- Represents Jet Aviation as a unified entity, both internally and externally, engaging with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.
The Pilot-in-Command may delegate duties but retains full responsibility for them. Other duties may be required as needed.
Minimum Requirements
- Must possess an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- Flight Experience:
- 3500 hours Total Fixed Wing
- 1500 hours Multi-Engine Land
- 1500 hours Pilot-in-Command
- 1500 hours Turbojet
- 500 hours Turbine time
- 100 hours Night
- 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument
- Minimum of 5 years of aviation experience.
- Must be able to work flexible schedules.
- Willingness and ability to travel worldwide extensively, without any restrictions.
- Must hold a valid driver's license.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to work effectively in both a heavy maintenance environment and upscale customer areas.
The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate, with occasional high volume during aircraft arrivals and departures. The employee is frequently exposed to vibration. Occasional fuel fumes may permeate the workplace. Employees must be willing and able to work in all types of weather conditions. The Hangar environment may experience extreme hot and cold temperatures during certain seasons of the year.
Compensation Data
The likely salary range for this position is $230,000 - $285,000. This range is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be determined based on experience, geographic location, and possibly other specific requirements.
