First Officer (Second in Command) - Part 121 Commercial Operations

Role Summary and Responsibilities

The First Officer (Second in Command) is a critical member of the flight deck crew, executing commercial flight operations for the transport of passengers, mail, freight, or for other approved commercial purposes. This position ensures adherence to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance under 14 CFR Part 121.

Core Duties and Expectations

  • Meticulous preparation of all operational components, including verification of required paperwork, compliance with all flight restrictions, and accurate weight and balance calculations.
  • Executing the conduct of safe flight operations in collaboration with the Pilot in Command, utilizing advanced Crew Resource Management (CRM) techniques.
  • Completing all required post-flight documentation, defect reporting, and administrative duties promptly upon conclusion of the flight mission.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Candidates applying for the First Officer position must satisfy the following minimum flight time requirements, as mandated by Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR).

Required Flight Experience (FAR ยง 121.436(a)(3))

  • Must possess a minimum of 200 hours of FAA-approved Prior Qualifying Time (PQT) to qualify for service as Pilot in Command in Part 121 operations.
  • Alternatively, candidates may qualify by having accrued 200 hours serving as Second in Command at a certified Part 121 air carrier.

Verification Protocol

Candidates are required to provide comprehensive documentation and proof verifying all claimed flight time requirements. All prior qualifying time will be thoroughly reviewed and validated against official pilot logbooks by the System Chief Pilot and/or the Director of Operations during the structured interview process.
