Aviation Safety Manager & CFI - Hybrid Role
A dynamic aviation organization seeks a part-time Safety Manager to also serve as a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI). This hybrid role dedicates approximately 16 hours per week to the daily operations of the safety program, with responsibilities including reviewing and analyzing safety reports, identifying appropriate actions, and collaborating with the safety team. This position reports to the Director of Safety, allowing the successful candidate to continue their active CFI duties.
The Safety Manager is responsible for collecting data, observing systems and processes, facilitating recommendations for improvements, and championing a robust safety culture throughout the company. The ideal candidate will ensure the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of all processes required for a comprehensive Safety Management System (SMS). A thorough understanding of establishing and maintaining an effective safety culture is essential, as is the ability to balance business needs with operational risk mitigation. This position is based at either the Hillsboro, OR or Redmond, OR campus.
Responsibilities Include:
- Managing the daily tasks of the safety program, including SMS reporting, reviewing, investigating, and analyzing events, creating potential corrective actions, and leading safety team meetings.
- Advising management and staff on safety and regulatory matters.
- Assisting Department Safety Managers in developing appropriate safety standard operating procedures and policies under corrective and preventive action plans.
- Communicating the importance of hazard and error reporting to all employees.
- Supporting a "Just Culture" methodology in all aspects of the safety program.
- Creating and communicating safety and risk mitigation-related content for staff and students.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Strong and proven leadership experience verifiable with references.
- Flexible schedule to accommodate immediate safety concerns or incident resolution.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Strong judgement.
- Current and qualified CFI.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge of SMS concepts, references, and processes, including the four pillars of SMS.
