Position Summary

Second in command - reports directly to the Pilot in Command in charge. The Second in Command assists the Pilot in Command in safely and efficiently operating company aircraft while in compliance with all applicable regulations, rules, directives, company procedures, and aircraft flight manuals. He/She is responsible to the Pilot in Command of the flight for safe execution of assigned duties. Must be knowledgeable of the company manual, federal regulations, operations specifications, aircraft flight manuals, and other instructions pertinent to required duties. The Second in Command is in training to become a Pilot in Command and may be advanced when the prescribed minimums are met.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintains currency in the aircraft and recurrent tests (135.293) are to be accomplished on or before the required time period
  • Complies with the flight and duty time limitations and is adequately rested
  • Keep the PIC appraised of any situation affecting safety of flight; take part in all departure, en route, and approach procedure briefings
  • At the discretion of the PIC, the second in command may be requested to perform additional duties such as:
    • Filing, opening, or closing flight plans
    • Conducting pre-flight and post-flight inspections
    • Checking to ensure required documents, navigational aids, manuals, and equipment are on board
    • Supervising the loading of passengers and cargo
    • Determining that carry-on items are properly stowed
    • Conducting passenger briefings
    • Performing ATC communications
  • Updates flight and duty time record and determines eligibility for the next flight assignment
  • Follows PIC’s directions and instructions
  • Provides competent airmanship necessary to ensure safety, passenger comfort and convenience, and on time departure and arrival

General

  • Interact with others in a professional and respectful manner
  • Follow up with other company departments and employees
  • Recommend process and communication improvements
  • Regular and prompt attendance

Additional Responsibilities

  • On-call and overtime duties as required
  • On the job training for new employees
  • Miscellaneous other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • FAA Air Transport Pilot License with appropriate ratings (ATP)
  • FAA First Class Medical Certificate
  • Hours of flight time
  • 2,000 Total fixed wing
  • 500 Pilot in Command
  • 100 Time in type
  • 1500 Multi engine
  • Annual recurrent full motion simulator training Must pass all conducted drug screens, background and security checks, and prove eligibility for employment in the United States
  • Excellent listening and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently
  • Ability to act under pressure and be adaptable to change on a constant basis
  • Ability to travel internationally
  • Must be located in Islip, NY or be willing to relocate

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift heavy baggage/equipment
  • Ability to remain seated for long periods of time

Working Conditions

  • Able to work in different weather conditions
  • Be able to work in a small cockpit
