UAV Pilot and Instructor - Flex-Deployable Capacity
General Atomics Systems Integration, LLC (GA-SI), a leader in military and commercial engineering solutions known for its cutting-edge expertise in systems integration technologies, reliability enhancements, and controls system design, seeks an experienced UAV Pilot and Instructor for a unique and challenging opportunity within its Aero Services Team. This individual will operate in a hybrid capacity, contributing both as an instructor for UAV Pilots and as a UAV Pilot.
Position Highlights:
- Leadership in Flight Operations: This role involves significant responsibility in overseeing ground and flight operations, encompassing mission planning and execution, briefings and debriefings, effective aircrew resource management, and unwavering adherence to ground and flight safety protocols.
- Pilot-in-Command & Instruction: Serving as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) of assigned Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), the chosen candidate will also leverage their expertise as an Instructor Pilot, providing comprehensive academic and in-flight instruction to aspiring UAV Pilots.
- Technical Expertise & Collaboration: This individual will act as a company flight examiner and subject matter expert, collaborating closely with engineering teams to refine and enhance the development of the Predator aircraft. They will also represent the organization as a primary technical point of contact for contracts and projects.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and participate in all aspects of ground and flight operations, ensuring meticulous mission planning, flawless execution, detailed briefings and debriefings, efficient aircrew resource management, and unwavering commitment to safety.
- Pilot UAVs remotely to evaluate compliance with specifications and operational suitability during engineering tests, flight tests, and demonstration support, executing specifically prescribed tests and maneuvers.
- Conceptualize, plan, organize, and execute intricate flight programs and flight test events.
- Maintain strict adherence to service guidance, company policies and procedures, and all applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.
- Develop and validate procedures for new aircraft features, including comprehensive operational and safety protocols as well as training syllabus courseware.
- Conduct demonstrations and participate in operational and experimental ground and flight tests of assigned UAVs, confidently representing the organization before senior military and commercial clients.
- Provide expert instruction to UAV student pilots and instructor pilots-in-training, covering all aspects of ground and flight operations.
- Evaluate UAV pilots to guarantee consistent application of company procedures and best practices.
- Uphold the highest ethical standards, ensuring compliance with all laws, regulations, and obligations while conducting business on behalf of the company.
- Maintain a steadfast commitment to safety, adhering to established operating procedures and best practices.
- Remain adaptable and responsive to evolving needs, taking on additional duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications:
- A four-year technical degree or trade school equivalent, coupled with seven or more years of experience in UAV operation or aviation. Equivalent professional or military experience in UAV or aviation may be considered as a substitute for formal education.
- A comprehensive understanding of UAV systems and FAA regulations, encompassing principles, theories, and practical application.
- FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with an active instrument rating and the ability to maintain instrument currency, or demonstrable experience with DOD specialized remotely piloted aircraft systems training/qualification (documented on USAF Form 8 or an equivalent).
- Pilot-in-Command (PIC) qualification with UAV Pilot Evaluator certification.
- A minimum of 500 hours logged as Pilot-in-Command (PIC), with preference given to candidates possessing UAV instructor experience or qualification on multiple UAV aircraft platforms.
- Experience with multiple aircraft UAV Pilot Evaluator qualification is highly desirable.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally for CONUS and OCONUS deployments.
- Exceptional analytical, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are crucial for effective interaction with personnel at all levels, including senior management, senior military and civilian clients, contractors, and fellow aircrew members.
- Strong computer literacy with proficiency in relevant software applications.
- The ability to work independently, demonstrate leadership within a team environment, manage extended work hours, and accommodate travel requirements.
