About the Role:
Garmin International is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Aviation Pilot Instructor to join our dynamic team in Olathe, KS. This critical role will spearhead leadership initiatives, project management, and provide expert subject matter knowledge within the Aviation Training Department.
Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Aviation Pilot Instructor will serve as a training and subject matter expert, responsible for:
Curriculum Development and Instruction:
- Design engaging and informative training materials including classroom presentations, seminars, and e-learning modules.
- Lead the development and implementation of standardized training protocols for Aviation Pilot Instructors.
- Deliver dynamic instructor-led training programs to a diverse audience, including Garmin dealers, OEMs, internal staff, and pilots, encompassing both domestic and international travel.
- Provide comprehensive avionics operations support to Garmin customers through various channels such as in-person sessions, online platforms, phone consultations, and email correspondence.
Technical Expertise and Product Knowledge:
- Cultivate and maintain an in-depth understanding of Garmin's avionics products, ensuring proficiency in their specifications, capabilities, and operation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Directors, Managers, Supervisors, and System Engineers, to identify and address internal and external training needs.
- Act as a technical liaison, bridging the gap between customers and Garmin associates across various departments.
- Continuously monitor, document, and report on Garmin equipment performance, identifying trends and recommending improvements for products, documentation, and procedures.
Training Program Leadership:
- Forecast, develop, and update pilot training courses that align with new product launches and service offerings.
- Provide dedicated support for OEM training programs involving Garmin avionics.
- Serve as a primary contact for aviation regulatory bodies such as the FAA and EASA on pilot training initiatives related to avionics.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field AND a minimum of four years of relevant experience OR a minimum of eight years of equivalent relevant education and experience.
- Certified Flight Instructor-Instrument (or military equivalent)
- Superior customer service orientation.
- Proficiency in presentation software (e.g., Prezi, PowerPoint, Keynote).
- Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Desired:
- Experience in customer service.
- Proficiency in developing interactive, multimedia training materials.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to interpret engineering documents.
- Advanced understanding of PowerPoint.
- Commercial Pilot certificate with Instrument rating (or military equivalent).
- Experience with multiple Garmin avionics platforms or systems.
- A&P License.
- Knowledge of competitive avionics.
- Practical experience in post-secondary or adult education.
- Basic computer science understanding.
- Proficiency in using audio-visual equipment.
- 1500+ flight hours, turbine aircraft experience, Part 61 and/or Part 141 flight instructor experience, Part 91, Part 121, and/or Part 135 operational experience, or type ratings.
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Training department or training provider experience.
