Forest Protection Limited | AT-4/5/6/8 Chief Pilot

Forest Protection Limited is seeking a motivated leader for the Chief Pilot position in the Flight Operations Department. Reporting to the Director of Flight Operations (DFO), the incumbent will be responsible to ensure safe and efficient operation of all company aircraft, including administration of all matters concerning aircraft, pilots, pilot training, examinations, competency tests, operations, and operating limitations of aircraft and crew as detailed in FPL's Company Operations Manual.

The Chief Pilot is responsible for the following tasks:

1. During the “on season” (April-September), the Chief Pilot will support the DFO with the following activities:

o Liaise with internal and external personnel to ensure aircraft and pilots operate safely.

o Monitor daily flight activities to ensure they are conducted in accordance with FPL instructions.

o Coordinate required pilot training programs and maintain pilot records.

o Prepare written examinations and training syllabus for personnel knowledge.

o Perform competently on FPL aircraft to establish procedures to operate such equipment.

o Conduct flights to support operations when office-work permits.

o Ensure that work, professional development, and performance appraisals are completed for themselves and subordinates annually in a timely manner.

o Ensure that personnel are adhering to safety policies; issue notices to flight crew as required.

o Supervise flight crew: includes paperwork approval, and tracking duty/rest periods, etc.

o Respond to emergencies and provide assistance and coordination as per the Emergency Response Manual.

o Assume any other responsibilities delegated by the DFO

2. During the “off season” (October-March), the Chief Pilot will support the DFO with the following activities:

o Maintain and update documents, including Standard Operating Procedures, Manuals, and develop new documents, if required.

o Contribute to budget building
o Remain current on developments in the field of forest protection and fire suppression by attending meetings/seminars and other information exchanges, reading published literature and reviewing pre-published material at colleagues' request, periodic training, familiarization with relevant technology, etc.

o Use existing company resources and research to identify changes in the aviation industry, including aviation law and regulations, to recommend modifications to current company policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) or Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) with over 2000 hours PIC.

Experience in the 702 industry as an Air Tractor 802 pilot.

Undergraduate Degree or Diploma in a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Aviation knowledge, including of the Canadian Aviation Regulations and Standards.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; able to prepare clear, concise and accurate correspondence, procedures and other written materials

Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc) and proficient with computers including SharePoint

Proven ability to organize, problem solve, and multi-task

Ability to travel occasionally and sometimes work shifts outside regular business hours

DESIRABLE SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

Well-developed organizational skills, with ability to accomplish deadlines

Experience in supporting decentralized operations;

Experience working with multiple stakeholders;
Experience assisting the project/operations team with planning, directing and controlling the activities within scheduled time and cost parameters;

Preferred 5 years of management experience in corporate flight operations

Proactive, ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision

Confident, able to work in a fast-paced emergency response aviation company

Detail-Oriented, ability to prioritize and be proactive.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Being legally entitled to work in Canada
Successful Criminal Record Check
Proof of Covid-19 vaccination
Ability to communicate clearly in English
Have a modern mobile phone capable of making phone calls and sending/receiving SMS and email
