FlySafair | First Officer

FlySafair is seeking a skilled First Officer for commercial jet operations in South Africa. This permanent position will involve operating aircraft safely and efficiently, supporting the Captain, and ensuring compliance with all regulations. The role is based in Johannesburg (JHB) with potential deployments to Durban (DBN), Hlanganani (HLA), and Cape Town (CPT).

About the Role

The First Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring safe and timely flight operations. Key responsibilities include continuous monitoring of flight path, systems, instruments, geographical position, and terrain clearance. The role also requires diligent execution of pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks, checklist completion, radio communications, and accurate legal and operational reporting. The First Officer acts as a vital support to the Captain, contributing to crucial decisions regarding routes, weather, fuel, and alternates. Maintaining regulatory compliance, fostering crew discipline and morale, and providing excellent customer service are integral to the position. In the event of the Captain's incapacitation, the First Officer assumes command.

Requirements

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• SACAA Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL).
• Class 1 SACAA medical certificate.
• Minimum of 1,500 total flight hours, including 500 hours of multi-turbine time, for non-type-rated or Boeing type-rated applicants.
• Multi-crew experience.
• No existing medical conditions.
• Willingness to sign applicable training bond(s).
• No criminal record.
• Willingness to undergo drug and alcohol testing.
• Own transport and a valid RSA driver’s licence.
• South African citizenship with proof of identity.
• A valid RSA passport.
• Willingness to work irregular hours on a roster.
• Detailed knowledge and understanding of national aviation regulations, including SACAA and ICAO.
• Familiarity with Doc 8186.
• Knowledge of Commercial and Airline Transport Pilot licensing content.

Qualifications

• A SACAA ATPL is preferred.
• A Boeing type rating is advantageous.
• Experience on commercial jets over 20 tons is beneficial.
