Pilot Instructor - C-17

FlightSafety International, a leader in aviation training, is seeking a qualified Pilot Instructor to provide ground-based training for C-17 pilots. This role is based at JBLM McChord Field, WA, and involves instructing and assessing crewmembers within an established Training System (TS) curriculum.

About the Role

The Pilot Instructor will conduct comprehensive ground-based training for C-17 pilots, utilizing various training devices and simulators. Responsibilities include delivering initial, upgrade, requalification, and refresher training. The role also involves training maintenance personnel on engine run courses, conducting detailed briefings and debriefings, analyzing student performance, and serving as a KC-46 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME).

Key Responsibilities

Conduct initial, upgrade, requalification, and refresher training using classroom settings, Pilot Part Task Trainers (PTTP), Boom Operator Part Task Trainers (PTTB), Boom Operator Trainers (BOT), Fuselage Trainers (FuT), Weapon System Trainers (WST), and KC-46 aircraft.
Provide ground-based training for aircrew members on tanker and receiver operating procedures, identifying and addressing student deficiencies.
Deliver initial and recurring training for maintenance personnel in Engine Run courses.
Perform briefings, debriefings, and provide counseling to enhance student technical acumen and proficiency.
Extract and analyze student data for review sessions.
Act as a KC-46 Pilot SME.
Maintain high instructional standards, knowledge, and expertise.
Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of KC-46 aircraft systems and operating procedures.
Apply instructional principles and theories to aircrew training systems.
Contribute to courseware corrections, modifications, and updates to training policies.
Operate the Student Management System.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree.
Eight (8) years of flying experience.
Five (5) years of experience as a C-17 pilot, with air drop and aerial refueling experience, or ability to obtain an AMC/A3TK waiver.
Two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics.
Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are desired.
Ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand English.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to present information and respond to customer inquiries effectively.
Working knowledge of instructional principles and theories related to training systems.
Proficiency with personal computers and software applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
Ability to successfully complete annual internal standardization evaluations.
Possession of an active SECRET Security Clearance.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The role involves regular sitting, standing, and walking, with occasional reaching, stooping, and kneeling. The position requires frequent ingress/egress from simulators and aircraft, working in varying weather conditions and temperature extremes. Employees may be required to lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 35 pounds occasionally. Noise levels can range from quiet to extremely loud. The ability to safely exit a WST via an escape ladder is necessary.
