About the Role

FlightSafety International is seeking a C-17 Pilot Instructor to provide ground-based training for C-17 pilots at their Elmendorf AFB location. This role involves instructing, evaluating, and measuring the training progress of crewmembers within the established Training System curriculum, utilizing various training devices and the C-17 aircraft.

Responsibilities

Conduct training using devices such as the Weapon System Trainer (WST) and Computer-Based Trainers (CBT), focusing on air drop, aerial refueling, and transport operating procedures for C-17 pilots.
Diagnose and remediate student learning challenges.
Maintain high levels of subject matter knowledge and instructional expertise.
Conduct pre-flight and post-flight briefings and debriefings to ensure pilot proficiency.
Perform administrative duties related to training, including record-keeping, student progress monitoring, and training program maintenance.
Provide feedback for courseware corrections and modifications.
Fly the WST and observe C-17 aircraft flights as required to maintain currency and instructional expertise.
Serve as a C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME) and potentially as a Flight Check Airman (FCA) or Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator.
Undertake Simulator Certification (SIMCERT) and Simulator Evaluation (SIMVAL) duties as assigned.
Assist with project and development work as needed.
Attend relevant operational meetings and curriculum reviews.
Perform other assigned duties, including those related to learning center monitoring, safety, security, and hazardous materials handling.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required.
Eight (8) years of flying experience, with a minimum of five (5) years as a C-17 pilot including air drop and aerial refueling experience, or eligibility for an AMC/A3TK waiver.
Two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics.
Ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand English.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly relay information and respond to customer inquiries.
Working knowledge of instructional principles and theories relevant to Training Systems.
Proficiency with personal computers and common software applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
Ability to successfully complete annual internal standardization evaluations.
Possession of an active SECRET Security Clearance.
Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Qualifications

Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are desired.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The role requires the ability to talk or hear, sit, stand, walk, and use hands for fine motor tasks. Occasional reaching, stooping, or kneeling is necessary. Candidates must be able to ingress/egress from simulators and aircraft, work in varying weather conditions and temperatures, and frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 35 pounds. The work environment may involve noise levels ranging from quiet to extremely loud, and requires the ability to exit the WST via an escape ladder.
