Flight Safety International | Pilot

FlightSafety International is seeking a C-17 Pilot Instructor to provide ground-based training for C-17 pilots at its location. This role involves instructing and evaluating crewmembers in accordance with the established Training System (TS) curriculum, utilizing various training devices and aircraft simulation technologies.

About the Role

The C-17 Pilot Instructor will be responsible for delivering comprehensive ground-based training to C-17 pilots. This includes instructing on air drop, aerial refueling, and transport operating procedures, as well as diagnosing and remediating student difficulties. The role requires maintaining a high level of subject matter expertise and instructional capability. Responsibilities extend to conducting briefings and debriefings, performing administrative duties related to training, providing feedback for courseware development, and potentially flying the Weapon System Trainer (WST) or observing flights in the aircraft to maintain currency and assess student progress. The Pilot Instructor may also serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), Flight Check Airman (FCA), or Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Eight (8) years of flying experience, with a minimum of five (5) years as a C-17 pilot, including air drop and aerial refueling experience, or eligibility for an AMC/A3TK waiver.
• Two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics.
• Ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Ability to clearly relay information verbally and in writing.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to customer questions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Working knowledge of instructional principles and theories relevant to Training Systems (TS).
• Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).
• Must successfully accomplish annual internal standardization evaluations.
• Possess an active SECRET Security Clearance.

Qualifications

• Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience is desired.
• CATS MECOC certification is desired.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This role requires the ability to talk or hear; sit, stand, or walk; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. Occasional reaching with hands and arms, and stooping or kneeling may be necessary. The teammate will frequently ingress/egress from the simulator and aircraft, and may work in inclement weather and temperature extremes. The ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 35 pounds, is required. Work environments can range from quiet to extremely loud, and may require the ability to exit the WST via an escape ladder.
