About the Role
FlightSafety International is seeking a Pilot Instructor to provide ground-based training for C-17 pilots. This role involves instructing and assessing the training progress of crewmembers within the established Training System (TS) curriculum, utilizing various training devices and aircraft simulations. The position is based at Charleston AFB, SC.
Responsibilities

Conduct training using devices such as the Weapon System Trainer (WST), C-17 aircraft, and Computer-Based Trainers (CBT).

Instruct C-17 TS pilots on air drop, aerial refueling, and transport operating procedures, diagnosing and remediating student issues.

Maintain high levels of subject knowledge, instructional capability, and expertise.

Conduct briefings, debriefings, and provide counseling to pilots and maintenance personnel to enhance proficiency.

Perform administrative duties including user interface, record keeping, student progress monitoring, and training program maintenance.

Provide input for courseware corrections, modifications, and updates to training policies.

Fly the WST and observe flights on the aircraft as required to maintain instructional expertise and currency.

Serve as a C-17 Pilot Subject Matter Expert (SME), Flight Check Airman (FCA), and Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) Evaluator as assigned.

Perform Simulator Certification (SIMCERT)/Simulator Evaluation (SIMVAL) duties.

Assist in project and development work as assigned.

Attend relevant operational reviews, standardization boards, and instructor meetings.

Undertake learning center monitor, safety representative, physical/cyber security representative, and hazardous materials (HAZMAT) duties as assigned.

Travel as required.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required.

Eight (8) years of flying experience, with at least five (5) years as a C-17 pilot with air drop and aerial refueling experience, or ability to obtain an AMC/A3TK waiver.

Two (2) years or 200 hours of flight instructor experience in air drop, aerial refueling, and tactics.

Ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand English.

Ability to clearly relay information verbally and in writing.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to customer questions.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Working knowledge of instructional principles and theories pertaining to Training Systems.

Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases).

Successful completion of annual internal standardization evaluations.

Possession of an active SECRET Security Clearance.
Qualifications

Recent C-17 flight simulator pilot instructor experience and CATS MECOC certification are desired.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The role requires the ability to talk or hear; sit, stand, or walk; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. Occasional reaching, stooping, or kneeling is necessary. Candidates must be able to ingress/egress from the simulator and aircraft, work in varying weather and temperature extremes, and lift/move up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 35 pounds. Noise levels can range from quiet to extremely loud. The ability to exit the WST via an escape ladder is mandatory.
